Mage returning after 10 years

Hello,

I played UO from 97'-2001 and then quit. So now I have returned and noticed a lot of changes. I enjoy mage type characters but have a few questions regarding gear and skills.

1) Back when I quit, mages didn't wear armor most of the time (this was before imbuing). Now it seems like everyone wears at least leather armor imbued. My question is, is there still a benefit to not wearing armor, or will my resists always be gimp if I don't?

2) Does no one go 7x 100% anymore, or is it all 5x 120% with like 100% Inscription?

2) Currently I am training:
Magery
Eval Int
Resist Spells
Meditation
Focus
Mysticism
Inscription

Are these good skills to train, and what should I train them to? I enjoy both PvP and PvE and want to be able to do both.

Thanks in advance for any help given. If there is anything else I should know, please don't hesitate to tell me, as it seems like a lot has changed in my time away.

Welcome back to UO. Hope your enjoying your return. Going to try to answer a few of your questions:

No there is no benefit to not wearing armor. BUT, there are a few pluses to wearing suits for mages as in adding mods (such as lower regent cost and mana regeneration).

I dont think anyone runs with 7x100 any longer. Yes you could certainly run a 5x120 plus scribe, many do.

Its important to know that since you last played things such as lrc, mana regen, spell damage increase, defensive chance increase, hit chance increase and many other things are used terms. To be able to combat against all these things its a sort of paper/rock/scissors game. My question to you is what do you want to do and who od you want to be?? While Ill always enjoy pvp I suggest screw trying to keep up with the masses there cause well there is a reason many "elite" pvpers dont log on for a few days after the latest patches come thru, Ill leave it at that.

Dive into the game and talk to as many people as you can in an effort to develop your own playstyle again. I am really enjoying seeing so many old vets re-enter the game, doing my best to lend a hand where I may in the hopes I see them stay.

What shard are you currently playing on?? If its Atlantic look me up, ask any TWT member to contact me if you should come across them. Safe travels and good luck to you.

Thank you for the advice. I am playing on Siege P. The whole Trammel/Fellucia thing is what killed this game for me in the first place. I'm not a PK or anything, but there was a bit of fun lost in not having to watch you back when you go out.

does poison still effect your magery poisoning skill?
