War Mace 17 Stones
Mace 14 Stones
Vs the War Hammer that you would think to be heavier 10 stone
... ok then why is the swing rate on all these so diffrent. Hammer should be the fastest if lighter and using two hands.
War Mace 4s
Mace 2.75
War Hammer 3.75

but I really think the one handed maces weight is just too much.
After all Diamond mace type are only 10 stones and have almost the same damage cap. The low end damage is a bit less.

If you compare to the Ornate Axes that are 12 stones, 2hd 3.5 ss, MUCH more damage and faster...

...Really? Make a poll, let's see what the community thinks should be heavier.

are there any mechanics which depend on the weight of a weapon? disarming?

Remember, maces originally "used" that extra weight to damage or destroy armor during attacks. Just another victim of the horribly planned and executed AoS transition.

Okay... I believe the only mechanic that would depend at all on the weight of a weapon would be Stealing. Better?

Was only trying to explain why it was as it is before. :p

fairly certain we had a poll about polls.... and if I wasn't so lazy, or if I cared at all ;) I'd go find it

I think everything should affect the way your character performs, weapons, clothing, terrain, weather, how much ale he's had..... if wearing valorite to gain protection (which it absolutely should) there should be stamina or speed loss, and if wearing leather to maintain speed and stamina there should be less protection

and if that's the way things already behave, please ignore me

Sorry. But this is just silly. It's not like everyone runs around at max weight.

That is by far one of the lamest reply I have seen. Because not everyone has an issue don't bother with it.. bah!! Rubbish. The issue is for ppl that do bother to carry a few of these weapon types and the excessive amount of weight and no logic as to why the heavier weapons can have a faster swing speed. I did not intend the thread to be a troll, only to bring some light to a overlooked situation. Half your post are an attempt to bring someones point to a standstill.
Your point is more like,, Don't give them water if thirsty, because I have drank enough.

Maplestone has a valid point. If they don't want it to be heavy then there should be lore around how they crafting lightens the load.

People still use maces? :lick: Worried about weight per swing speed ratio? The generals drop some faster yet just as useless hammers and maces. For myself, I pimped out my war hammer, carbon fiber shaft.... chromed head. Still as slow as swinging a cow on a stick but oh so fashionable.

I agree about the swing ratio, but this was mostly due to me noting the very heavy weight of the items and then compared a few weights and the swing vs damage.. seems to be off a bit on these. War hammer weilded two handed @ 10 stones. Does not fit logic.

Well, maces are suppose to be blunt weapons where damage is should be based on how heavy or thick that weapon is.

I would imagine that a lot more iron goes into making a mace than any other weapon. So obviously the mace is going to weigh A LOT more. Just look at the damn weapons, they are thick are completely made of iron! That's not going to be light weight!

The wooden staves are pretty light. But as viper says, maces are heavy as it does damage by brute force bludgeoning your opponent with the weighted solid iron end. No trying to find unprotected joints to slice and stab your opponents with finese.

Now that maces don't have enhanced armour damaging properties, I think it would be better balanced to actually scale the weapon weights lighter to be more in line with the ingots used. Most of the smithing weapons/armour weigh much more than the resources used to make them...

My fear is that, instead of making weapons lighter, they increase the ingots requirements instead... I have learned to be careful what I wish for...

Pretty much anyone wearing quality made Ring or Chain would get bludgeoned to death by someone with a bladed weapon anyways no need to worry about joints and what not with those either.....Maces though do need looked at. I don't care about the Swing Speed to Weight ratio, it's just that they are the only line of one handed weapons that can't readily be stolen. You go to any other group and you don't see anything similar! It's not like we're gonna cut our fingers on anything sharp as we finesse it out of your pack anyways.

Aha! I see the plan now, to divert attention by talking about weight and swing speed...Then, once the weight has been reduced, the thieves would make off with all my weapons!

Very sneaky and utterly evil, I like it!

Poles in this thread, not polls!

*wonders if a tent pole would be classed as a macing weapon*

I don't care so much about the weight, but I would really like to see them lower the strength requirement on warhammers. With as slow as maces are, its really hard to budget in the stats to keep your War hammer equipped when cursed. I mean.. STR requirement 95? Really?

I almost never use heavy maces because of how slow they are. I prefer mauls personally.

Still, I wouldn't mind a weight decrease.... And truthfully, most of the naysayers here would in all likelihood never even notice the change.

Iunno about you folks but have any of you bumped into an accomplished Nec weilding a Hammer of the Titan in Fel?

If you have then please share the experience I am interested to hear your exploits.:D

Heavy or Slow as they are Maces have their use depending on WHO holds it we say.

Yes, the devs have stated that macing weapons have a higher chance of lowering durability than other weapon classes.

As for materials - consider that none of the traditional (AoS and earlier) "smith" weapons that SHOULD have wood in their composition, only require metal.

5 maces weigh 70 stone.
the INGOTS to make 5 maces, weigh THREE stone.

And, consider the following - I only pvp in tram ruleset, with guildmates wanting to test their skills; the whole fel playstyle is morally repugnant to me. But...

Maces do have their uses in PvP, even if they aren't obvious to those always striving for the "leet gear of the week".

1. its weight makes it unstealable from a live user.
2. it is reasonably fast for a mace fighting weapon
3. it has DISARM as a special.

I've kicked people's arse in organized dueling with my BLACKSMITH, who has 120 Smith and 100 mining, both me and my foe wearing normal equipment bought from an NPC, because they had forgotten that maces disarm (I have 120 macing and 90 tactics natural, so I have full use of specials). With my full combat kit on, I can probably take down most of the bottom feeders that attack fel miners, if I get attacked on one of my rare trips there.

I can carry around 5 weapons (all maces), and about 50 of each potion on my townie, along with slayer talismans and not be over weight, so unless this guy is running a mace smuggling business, wtf is the problem?
