What gives.. my mining spots and trees keeep changing every week. What did the Dev team do? I dont want to have to go chop a whole forrest once a week to find the types of wood I need, or mine all the mountains to find the ore I need. When did this change go into effect?

Welcome to Publish 46, this change actually went in, in 2007 to randomize resources. The intent was to make it more difficult for bots to harvest high end resources, what it did since Bots can run 24/7 is make it more difficult for everyone else...

you're supposed to buy from scriptors I think, that's why they made it challenging

years ago?

Well then why dont they change it back. Shesh I dont want to buy resources I want to harvest them myself.. makes marking books useless

Not totally useless. I've noted that spots that used to have high end ore or wood tend to have something other than iron or normal wood more often than the average spot. You just aren't guaranteed that its frostwood or whatever.

I'm glad I chopped and saved 300k frostwood. No need to hit the forest anymore....

I had spots on an overseas shard that were not scripted. I'd chop 5-10k a day every day and then xfered the deeds over to Great Lakes. No way to accumulate that on GL with all the scripting back in the day and impossible now with random resources.

Because they feel rare resources should be rare.... at least that's the justification I remember hearing.

Well at least I know better now than to post on the Ask the Dev team page... the post wont ever make it to the page.

Sounds about right. I also seem to remember they were supposed to compensate by making more dangerous areas much more likely to generate the rarer resources. I'm sure that will be put in any time now.

I'm not sure but I think I read the other day where someone commented that they do extremely well gathering high end ores in the Abyss, so this might have been a stealth addition that's already in. Lumber jacking though.....Well lets just say I haven't tried lumber jacking at the Primeval Lich spawn yet.

yep, had multiple library sets, fel & tram, all trashed exc for a few named in html colors (just in case).

Mining:
The only way I'd label any of them is by Volume(#). Spots that say, only give less than 5 ore, I disregard, but it's noteworthy if say I mine 20-25, espec if colored.
Or strip mine

Wood:
strip it bare, by whatever means makes you happy, leave the trash woods, espec plain, that stuff isn't even worth selling to an NPC anymore. (unless converted to bolts/shafts for easy transport and resold to players.

You tweaked my curiousity here...so I went to do a sampling...

I could only hit about 30-40 trees cause the spawn was popped, but was EXTREMELY suprised at the results...

60 Yew 60 Blood and 80 Heart

so, 3 trees outta 30-40....could be coincidence, and its damn sure not enough to call it a sure thing, but thats more than ive seen in a month of intermittant LJ...I just go for an hour when im bored, but again, like 5 hours this month, nothing higher than yew, then I find 3 outta 4 premium wood types in 15 minutes...

-wants to test further-

Ill see what I can do @ server up, or maybe some nice big strong guild will go clear that pesky spawn :L)

I think this is simply because common places get mined/lumberjacked often enough that once they turn to normal ore/wood people leave them alone, so when you go to that area there's not much left but normal resources. Deep in dungeons, where not many mine, or lumberjack however, may have a less skewed towards "useless" distribution of resources.

I have a second theory also though, that ratio of "rare" trees and ore spots to normal ones might be per subserver, meaning dungeon subservers you'd be far more likely to find a rare wood tree due to there simply not being many trees there. (less ground to cover and guaranteed to be a rare wood tree nearby, even if it is at the same ratio as other subservers that makes it take less time.) I know when I mine in dungeons I get FAR more "rare" ore than I do outside or in mines.

Lumberjacking needs equivilent items to Mining's Prospector's Tool and Gargoyle Pick.

Beyond that, the system is fine as it better rewards based on harvesting an area instead of harvesting a spot.

Basically, in Mining terms, you do better taking a fire beetle and strip-mining than you do recall bouncing everywhere (plus really it's faster if you're not having to cast a spell every minute or so).

As for scripting, with a mining character, I'll spend a good hour or two if I'm in the mood strip-mining certain well known and productive locations and have seen FAAAR fewer scripters POST randomization change. Why? Simple, the spots are no longer a guaranteed specific type. Some days trhe area produces very well, others, not so much, but that's the breaks of the game.

The idea though was not as much to hinder scriptors but to make "rare" resources more rare... because a resource isn't rare if you can harvest it in multiple locations on demand all the time.

It does lower the number of scriptors simply because they can no longer script-recall harvest specific spots.

That being said, I repeat my initial statement... Lumberjacking needs its versions of the mining tools that help miners obtain higher end ores (and at the same time, let's look at balancing the amounts gained through the two skills (10 boards vs 2 ingots) and the "fail rate" issue of processing raw material into resources (no fail for jacking, scaled % for mining).

ROFLMAO come to Napa and go into fel and tell me it limits scriptors. There are zones here where you will see several scriptors in one area. and forget reporting them.

I make no claims for Napa, but I have seen a marked decrease on LS at least where I mine during nighttime hours and weekends.
