Lost Promo Items After Revert

This appears on another thread but I just feel it needs a thread of its own. I claimed my items and put them into a secure container in my house. There is a revert and... Bam! All items gone and not able to re-claim them. Can nothing be done about this? Anyone else had this happen? Thanks for any help.
