Lore while training

I heard it mentioned that while training taming, it's better to keep animal lore at or below 100 for better gains, that the gains aren't as good if you have like 85 taming but 115 lore.

Any substance to that?

In my experience it doesn't make any difference. I have heard though if you stone all your skills and lock them down, and just train taming, it will rise faster. But that could be a vicious rumour as well...

I've never experienced faster gains simply by not having lore in my template during training. What has made a difference is keeping my overall skill point usage as low as I can, so I maximise my GGS gains. Usually I let lore rise alongside taming, but once it hits the required skill cap (usually looong before taming!) I will soulstone it off if I can. But purely to keep my skill points below 350, not because animal lore is a problem :) Hope that makes sense!

If you look at this page and scroll down, you'll find a handy chart which explains what happens to your GGS gains as your skill points increase.

In the past I've started new chars with points in taming/other tough skills and trained those up first to get the best results. Then I either soulstoned off a skill when it was done or just accepted the slower gains for the skills I added in later on.

Lore makes no difference to tame gaining.

Total skill will influence GGS, but if you're relying on that you're doing something wrong. GGS is woefully slow...

IMO let your lore rise, it'll mean you're more prepared when u need to start vetting, and will allow your to controle your tames if you need them to protect you, follow you, or kamikaze into a beastie to allow them to respawn...

Just enjoy the blue messages in the bottom left - you'll need every bit of encouragement after you've tamed 400 polar bears :p

I kinda figured that would be the answer, but better safe than sorry.

I'm only at 66 on my new tamer and i'm already sick of Ice again lol. This will be my 3rd GM tamer too, and one at 112 on my old server, makes it even worse. >.<'

But no, I don't mean to be one of those people who plans on hitting legendary by way of GGS only. It's nice to have in case you don't play your tamer for a day or two (you're doing it wrong) but it shouldn't be a crutch.
