... except it's not like Age of Empires or Warcraft or any RTS, lol.

It's a browser game. You never see your army, everything is numbers, pretty much. You plan your city, it takes hours, you build up different parts of the city, resource buildings, armies, make new cities by taking over other cities or blank spots on the map, team up with other players, turn cities into castles or raid randomly placed monster bosses or dungeons for artifacts and resources, then begin to take over other alliances of players.

Been there, played it. It's crappy. It quickly gets boring. There's no goal. You just build cities, build more cities, and build even more cities. You may PvP, but there's no point doing it besides wasting time and resouces. Once you have 20 cities it's a huge mess to manage, it becomes tedious so it's not even fun anymore to watch your cities growing.
Frankly, it's not a game.

The shortest and sweetest comparison to LoU is the board game Stratego :)

So I take it there are not many fans of LOU on the UO player side? That in itself is feedback ;)

I liked it, until I found out there is no cap it seems on people attacking you. Logged on today to like 26 new messages that the same person invaded me.

Or, at least, that those that don't like it are more vocal than those that do.

I enjoy it as a casual diversion - something to do here and there.

It reminded me of all the age of empire type games. But without much game. I find the RTS games pretty dull to begin with though so I am obviously not the target demographic.

As far as FB apps go, it's one of the better ones. I've been through the 'log in and find everyone and their dog has bitten me' social games and this is sorta like Mafia Wars meets Farmville with the build/destroy others mindset :gee:

FB app? I didn't know it was on facebook. I've only seen it on lordofultima.com. Yeah, for a FB app it would be really good.

It is very deceptive. When you are building up your first city it is lots of fun. By your ~10th, it is very tedious and time consuming. It does not help that every city is built the exact same way.

A few times in the past, EA has licensed out the Ultima name to some developer, for reasons mostly to do with the value of the brand; though it hasn't been done (to my knowledge) since the Ultima series of games that predates Ultima Online, and this is the farthest cry from the genre I've heard of. (Many years ago, there were a couple of titles wherein the Avatar went on adventures separate and unrelated to his affairs on Sosaria, but they still looked and felt similar to other Ultima games.)

I stumbled on the website for Lord of Ultima the other day, and from what I can tell, it uses a few catch phrases from Ultima lore and nothing else. Ultima historians (they exist) will probably remember it only as an odd little footnote.

Anyway. On the bright side, it gave me the itch to resubscribe to UO. It's been years! The enhanced client is 93 percent patched as I type this!
