Looting rights

I have been trying to search for detailed informations on the functionality of Looting Rights in Ultima Online but I could only find old informations.

Does that mean there have been no changes to looting rights as described there in all those years ?

Monster Looting and Fame/Karma
Looting rights for monsters will be based on a point system. The system will track players as they attack a monster, assigning “points” based on the damage they do and the number of times they strike the monster. Bonus “points” will be awarded for both the first strike and the kill shot. These “points” are then used to determine which characters have access to its corpse. Damage and attack totals done by tamed or provoked animals/monsters will count towards the point total of the tamer/bard.

The player with the most points gets to loot the monster automatically. The system then looks for any players who have points equal to or greater than 30% of the top point score.

On Trammel, only these players will have access to the corpse. It will be impossible for any other player to loot. On Felucca, those players that are not in the top 30% can loot the corpse, but will be flagged criminal for doing so. The corpse will appear "blue" to them when single clicked.

Those players who simply hit the monster for the kill shot will rarely, if ever, receive looting rights because their points total will rarely be within 30% of the highest point total.

After two minutes, the monster's corpse will be freely lootable by any character.

Fame and karma will be given to players using this system. Only the character with the highest point total and characters with 30% or greater of that point total will be eligible to get fame and karma from the death of a monster. Party members of any character that is eligible for fame and karma will also be eligible regardless of their point totals. This allows those who only heal during a fight (and thus do not actually damage the monster) to receive fame and karma. Note that every character who is eligible receives total fame and karma from the monster, it is not split proportionately in any way.

Instance Corpses

Damaging a mob and making the top attackers list allows you access to its loot in an fairly distributed fashion
The looting rights formula has remained unchanged
Players or parties who make the top attackers list will receive an “instanced” loot container
This corpse container will only be accessible by the player and not viewable by others for 3 minutes
Gold will be split evenly among all players on the top attackers list
Generic stackable items (bolts/arrows, jewels, reagents, etc.) will also be divided among the top attackers
Each player has a chance to receive up to 1/N (rounded up) of the creature’s total items (where N = # top attackers)
Resources (meat, skins, etc.) will go to the player on the top attackers list who first cuts up the corpse
Items the creature has looted from a player will only be available to the player they came from for 3 minutes
Each player’s own Luck will play a role in determining the loot that is received
In the case of a party, the member with the highest luck will be used
Loot and resources left in the instance corpses will become available to everyone after 3 minutes are up
PVP looting will not be affected by this change
Example:
The Dark Father (loot table: 2011 gold, 12 items)
Player A 670 gold 4 items (Notice player has a chance of receiving up to 1/N of the total items)
Player B 670 gold 3 items (Notice however players will not always receive the full amount of the 1/N items )
Player C 670 gold 4 items (Notice gold will always be split evenly)
Also, the info I found generically talk about 30% of the "top" attacker...

Thing is, I have heard of players participating at fights where the top attacker was doing like 150+ damage per hit and players doing like 30/40 damage per hit which is far below that 30%. Yet, everybody would get their instanced corpse in the end...

Also, what about "special items" ?

When there is only 1 special item is it luck of the draw among all that damaged the target no matter how much damage was done ?

Or, does it get RNGed only among the "top" damagers ? Top damagers in what sense ?

Within that 30% I read in the old article ?

Bottom line is, is there any more recent information available as in regards to how looting rights work in detail nowadays ?

Thanks.

The amount of damage you do is irrelevant. Your portion of the loot is RNG based.

Think of all the loot you're missing out on by not looting the corpses of the monsters you didn't hit!

Seriously?
Do some more research here for all you could want to know about Looting Rights.

For example, a quick check also found this:

Looting Rights Fixes
UO Team

The following issues with looting rights have been modified:
  • Getting the last hit on a monster will no longer be a determining factor for looting rights.
  • Players will no longer get credit for damage done to a creature beyond the amount of hit points remaining when calculating looting rights. For example, if a creature has 5 hit points and a player casts a spell on it that does 40 hit points of damage, the player will now get credit for doing 5 points as opposed to the potential damage amount of 40 points.

So why when hunting in a multiple players party still there is players trying to max out their damage output ?

If in the end it matters nothing whether one does 10 damage or 300 to get the special item drop, since it is only RNG determined, why bother maxing damage out other than to shorten the length of the fight ?

had several times as a fighter, disco'd bane guard, greater drag, that's it. I got to hit a Lot but got squat for loot. I just waited a couple mins, then dry looted. I was kinda disappointed at first(loot wise), but it was Fun!
