These really need to be coordinated, as the following things apply:
1. A character should be the same alignment as the side they choose - otherwise even staying alive long enough to get to the altar will be an issue for evil characters.
2. The best creatures are ones that start out the wrong alignment for the user, and they take on the proper alignment after reaching about level 4-5 of progression, if they only fight others of their original type. Until then, they'll be attacked by the side you're converting to (and they lose karma when they win). Possibly (not had a chance to see yet) even each other, if you have two good people trying to train two initially-evil pets, before they both alignment shift.
3. Once changed, they will attack PCs of the wrong alignment, so if training for the good side, keep away from the area that has the evil altar (and the good area linked by gate to it), and keeping away from the good altar when training for evil.
So, anyone have a time when they would be free, to try for the good or evil side (personally, I'd rather fight for good, as I've only got one evil character).
