[LoL News] Season Two Regional Spotlight: North America

From North America, three of the longest running League of Legends teams advance to the World Championship: Team SoloMid, Dignitas, and Counter Logic Gaming. Many of the star players on each team – like Reginald, Dyrus, Scarra, and HotShotGG – have been playing League of Legends since beta, and the team websites have become pillars of the League of Legends community. These teams have been tested in battle, representing a competitive region that hosted eight Challenger Circuit events, including The MLG Spring Championship and IPL 4, and saw 11 teams earn circuit points over the course of the year. Although the region might not be considered the favorite, it’s possible that playing in front of a cheering home crowd will help one of these teams take home the title of Season 2 World Champion.

Team SoloMid

Team SoloMid, the North American Champions, is the oldest competitive League of Legends team. All five members – Reginald, TheOddOne, Dyrus, Xpecial, and Chaox – played at the Season One Championship (though Dyrus was on Epik Gamer), and the team was a dominant force in Season 2. Since adding Dyrus in April 2012, Team SoloMid has remained undefeated on the North American Challenger Circuit and their only loss was to the Korean team Azubu Blaze. Team SoloMid is best known for excellent coordination, team fighting ability, their epic gaming house (the first in the League of Legends pro scene), and their enthusiastic fans.

Team Dignitas

After taking fourth at the Season One NA Regionals, Team Rock Solid vowed they’d return the next year. Now known as Dignitas, they established themselves as a top League of Legends contender after their first place win at IPL 3. The team settled on their current roster after their return from Korea, where they were eliminated early in The Champions Summer tournament. They’ll get a chance at a rematch in World Championship, when Scarra, Patoy, Imaqtpie, I Will Dominate, and Crumbzz face off against the Korean team that eliminated them from OGN, NaJin Sword.

Counter Logic Gaming (NA)

Counter Logic Gaming has been around almost as long as SoloMid and was formed by one of the most popular League of Legends players in the world, HotShotGG, as a foil to Reginald’s old team, All or Nothing. The rivalry between the players and teams has continued, with TSM and CLG often facing off in the finals on the Challenger Circuit. Counter Logic Gaming also spent a long time in Korea, competing in both seasons of Azubu The Champions. HotshotGG, Chauster, Doublelift, Voyboy, and bigfatlp became masters of lane swapping while in Korea, securing the final seed for the World Championship
