Lockpicking Question

Ok so my somewhat newbie warrior character has gotten almost a dozen paragon chests - that none of my chars can open.

I find out you need GM lockpicking to crack them open - is that right?

And do they have lockpicking deeds? Would be pretty cool if they did.

Anyway - I started a lockpicking\cartographer char - but lockpicking seems to be very very slow. How long should I expect to pick locks to GM?

Thanks

The level of difficulty of a paragon chest depends on what creature it came off.
An earth elemental, for instance, would give you a chest that you could open with GM magery.
I hope someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but if I remember right, the chest is the same level as whatever treasure map that creature is able to spawn with, and the map inside the chest is one level higher.
So a titan would give a level 5 chest containing a level 6 (ingeniously drawn) map.

Angus, you can find some of the information you're looking for on Stratics in the Treasure Hunters of Britannia section: http://uo.stratics.com/thb/info/dungeon/dungeonguide.shtml. and http://uo.stratics.com/thb/info/lockpicking.shtml . (There are other useful links related to treasure hunting and lockpicking on the left side of the page.)

The article at the last link above is perhaps a wee bit dated. Most people these days seem to go to Twisted Weald to be discorded by a satyr when they hit the low 90s in lockpicking. That way they can finish training up the skill in a couple of hours using lower-level tinker-made chests. Personally, I prefer to do the level 4 chests once I hit 92 skill in lockpicking, making a circuit of 3-4 locations. It takes longer to get to GM, but the gold is decent and once in a while I'll get something as loot that's pretty good too.
