Let Us Enhancing the Artifacts!

Artifacts should be something everyone desire for, something unique, and something hard to get, instead of something people throw on the ground or sold in bulk at dirt cheap prices. Meanwhile, artifacts should be something everyone has an equal chance getting them.

Players have been asking some artifact turn in system because the supposely desired items have been so common that players have ran out of storage for them.

Let us enhancing them! Keep the enhancement difficulty unchanged. 9 out 10 artifacts will break upon enhancement, but the surving one will be quite unique. This will turn a lot of "junk" arties into something more desirable and will motivate player keep on hunting to acquire them. In a sense, the arties will become resources, like ingots, woods, leather, etc.

While making this change, please also let us add something else to weapons other than just changing their elemental damages. The rare gems or peerless resources can be utilized for this purpose. Currently, enhancing weapons other than adding luck doesn't make much sense. The rare gems and peerless ingredients (with one or two exceptions) have lost players' interest for some time now. The items made by runics may not be so uber compared to enhanced arites. But the Ancient Smith Hammers will become popular again.

This change will affect most of UO players regardless of their professions.

They did make Artifacts easier to get, alot easier, they are now at least attainable by a casual player.

Enhanceable Arties? Don't like that idea much.

I had a friend who quit UO because she busted a unique EM Event Rare, the Gladiator's Cuirass, when she was attempting to enhance it with a 120.0 Smith with +60 ASH. She was a Rare's Collector.

Why did she quite? because she failed to create an even more rare item?

I don't get it?

That's a stupid reason to quit. Everyone knows the risk of enhancing. If you're gonna be using it on a very expensive item, you know that there's a chance of breakage.

Before she decided to enhance it, she promised that if she broke any Event Items during enhancing, that she would quit UO. She said it was kind of a Win/Win situation for her. If she succeeded, great, but if she quit, it wouldn't really matter to her because she lost most of her interest in UO already. The Gladiator's Cuirass was a Unique EM Event Item, as in meaning there was only one in existence in all of UO, dupers had not got ahold of it, and they never will now that it no longer exists.

She succesfully enhanced the 2nd best pair of "Gauntlets of Anger" in existence before, thus giving it more Resists than the best pair of them. She had a hobby of Rare/EM Item collecting, and she oftentimes enhanced them if possible.

I'll see your enhancing request and raise you a recycling request.

*wonders what makes an artifact tick*

(um ... but if recyclable, then not with a regular tool ... I've been saved more than once from clumsy clicking by the fact that I can't smelt a soulseeker)

It is like a enhancing + recycle + making some gems/ingredients more useful + giving players stronger reasons to hunt, to craft... Hit 4 birds with one stone.

It sounds your friend wants to quit. Otherwise she won't use failing to enhance an event item as an excuse. You have a chance to fail even with a NPC item. As a matter of fact, enhancing artifacts give the crafter the thrill that they rarely experience.

I enhanced the treachery a few years ago by pure luck. It was a thrill and would be heart breaking if i destroy it. But if I can't stand the fail, I won't enhance it.

Not an artifact, but a semi-rare drop from the Brit invasion...

Enhanced it with bronze. Obviously chances were better than on a high-end artifact, but I was still sweatin...

And yea, I attempt enhancing *everything* I get my hands on, it's the only way I keep my item count down in my houses

I always had the opinion, that enhancing should be possible for ninor and major artifacts.
This adds to the risk vs. rewards and makes this part of crafting more interesting. And with enough luck you may get this or that real nice piece.
