Lesser Hiryu question

Can someone set the record straight for me, i have a chr with 53 taming and was wondering can i own a lesser as a companion but not to ride, ive been told that i cant control it at my taming level, that i can control it with no taming once its tamed and also that i need to be master tamer or bushido to own and ride one,i want to bond it and have it as protection for my chr as i train my vet and taming skills higher.With all this conflicting advice i dont know which way is up at the moment
