Lake Austin Fairegrounds Design Contest (May 7th-May 21st)

In an effort to give LA a unique touch and a meeting place for both EM and player run events, a Fairegrounds contest is being held!

Contestants are more or less given free reign to design whatever they wish, as appropriate for a meeting place, and using whatever tools they deem necessary (InsideUO, MS Paint, and the like) to create their design. There are however a few rules:

1. The location for the Fairegrounds must be outside of any guard zone and must be in a comparatively spawn-free area (animals, mongbats and the such are fine) and fairly clear of obstructions (not in the middle of the woods or on top of a mountain or anything).

2. The Fairegrounds must be in Trammel and on the mainland, in order to make it fully accessible (if you have an idea for otherwise, please PM me and I will find out if it can be done).

3. ALL designs are subject to be modified as according to Mesanna, who will be bringing the design to life. The winner will, of course, be notified of any changes should any be required.

4. Contestants are also welcome and encouraged to come up with a name for their final design ("Fairegrounds" is abit too common and for the purposes of this contest, is only a placeholder name)

The contest will run from today (the 7th) until the 21st of May, with a winner chosen shortly thereafter.

The winner will receive the recreation of their design and a plaque dedicated to their win!

All entries must be submitted to my e-mail at [email protected] with all details and screenshots necessary. Good luck designers!

EDIT: Having spoken with EM Dexter, he has made me aware that he is fairly certain that the town-like space attached to the Hall of Champions (A rune located in the center of Luna) are the already existing Fairgrounds mentioned, and he apologizes for the confusion. In light of this, I will ask Mesanna to scope things out and get her go ahead for the contest (or a redesign). Either way, we can give the "Hall of Champions Fairgrounds" a decent name. The contest is on hold for now.

Uh, you must have misunderstood the subject when it was brought up...

We ALREADY HAVE a fairgrounds - in Malas - that was never officially named; I believe there is a rune upstairs in Luna to it. It is already a fairly unique place. It was about 95% finished when the EMs involved were released by EA, and we've had events there several times since, under its designer and later EMs.

A misunderstanding then. Thank you for bringing it to my attention. I originally brought the idea up during my initial Meet and Greet (while I talked about unique locations for LA) and afterwards decided to bring up the possibility of a contest to design a Faireground which I mentioned during the Craft Festival a little while ago. No one had told me otherwise or that there existed another Faireground (likely because they themselves did not know), or I would have tossed the idea out a long time ago. There is no rune in Luna, and though there is a book by Nyssa, given its age and that it does not point to anything specific, I can't draw anything from it and have found no reference to otherwise (The Events History thread on the forum has broken links).

I apologize to you Basara if I stepped on your toes with it, as I simply did not know. However for now the contest is still on.

Though Basara, as a matter of curiosity, I am interested, if you could tell me the specific location so I can check it out?

Outside that gate is a Bagball field (perfect for what you suggested), a few cool looking tents (war tents judging by their contents) and quite a few burning buildings, I imagine from a past event?

Pallando, the LA Fairgrounds is located on the middle-outside "island" in Southern Malas, far south of Luna and far west of Umbra. The entrance is the bridge at 34o27n' N 42o2' W.

The current structures are

A stable with corral and NPCs (and 3 horses spawning)
An inn/tavern home (The Hall of Champions, which was taken over and redecorated by Dexter - it even has a mailbox)
A "Takeshi's Castle" themed gauntlet (most people know that Japanese reality show from its Spike-butchered comedy dub MXC/"Most Extreme Elimination Challenge")
3 Archery buttes with two Ranger Guildmasters
a Jousting area
a Life-sized chess board
a concessions/food tent
a tent full of gypsies (complete with a wagon that has a Gypsy witch and her pet silver serpent)
another empty corral for visitor's pet parking if they don't want to stable.
A dueling arena (That I forget how one activated the gate inside to get to the fighting floor).

IT probably wouldn't be too hard to transplant the best parts of it elsewhere (say, outside luna gate where the bagball arena is, moving the items in place from the interrupted invasion, the tents, etc.), or just deleting all the southside remnants of the invasion (leaving the north side ones as memorials).

The odd red crystals you see on the ground outside Luna, in the fairgrounds area, in the Labyrinth and IIRC in Khaldun, are all remnants of that invasion.
