Killing the Solen Queen

I am currently trying to do the Ambitious Solen Queen quest and am getting severly hammered by the Queens.

I am guessing it is her acid attack, plus the acid sac bursting when she dies.

I am a paladin/melee so have no choice but to get up close and personal.

Can anyone please give me some advice as how best to take the b***h out?

take some explosion potions, and when you get her near death using your melee weapon, step back and hit her with explosion potions till she drops.

Greater Conflagration pots might work as well.

If you're human, you can also take Blade Spirit or mind blast scrolls in, as with the phantom 20 magery (From the Jack of all Trades attribute of humans), you have a 27% chance of casting these spells from scroll, and they don't require eval int.

Keep a close eye on her life, and when you hear/see that acid sack pop, move a few tiles away. I fight them a few times a week with my paladin, so I know exactly what you're talking about.

I have a few Blade Spirit scrolls so will try that.

With regard to Explosion Potion, how do I actually use them?

double-click the potion when it is in your pack. Use the targeting cursor to place it. You only have 3 seconds or so, so be quick. When placed back off a tile or 2 to avoid getting hurt yourself.

Experiment with NPC lesser explo pots - at your house or outside of town - until you get the hang of it. Any damage to you is easily bandaged or healed.

Always move away to a clear tile when there's acid on the ground, and lure them to you or run behind them to re-engage them from a clear tile. The acid can do a lot of damage if you stand in it.

Same tactics even when using pets or controllable summons (this excludes blade spirits and EVs of course, since they cannot be controlled), call them away if they are standing on tiles spilled with acid then attack from a different angle.

Same when looting, wait for the acid to dissipate or make sure you are standing on a clear tile before looting.

This cannot be stressed enough. I can't count the number of times I've not been paying attention while looting and ended up dead because I was standing right in the acid.
