Hello I have been on the fence for about 12 years on playing UO. Mostly because EQ got in the way in the beginning and other mmo seemed like a better option at the time. Alas I am so frustrated with every other mmo out there I want to pull my hair out. I am hoping UO is something that will put an end to this frustration that I am feeling. Its hard to find updated information on the game. So if anyone wants to take me under there wing with advice and what not that would be great! Would prefer to play something with a bow if that is even an option. Not even sure how the characters work. Download should be done soon I hope. Well see you in game.

An archer is certainly a viable template. One of the nice things about UO is that you can decide your own skill set rather than falling into predefined templates. If you like an archer with fishing - great. I'd just dive on in and try things to see what you like.

As you get started - be sure to ask questions here, in game, and in general chat. There are lots of helpful people around.

A sampire is about the most viable - for now... but with the changes coming in the next publish - it sounds like it will not be as good anymore.

AIUI - a Sampire probably isn't the best starting build for a first time player. It's not all that effective until you're fully trained and somewhat kitted out, and requires some experience to master the tactics. Try some more basic templates first, and spend some time exploring the world and the various options available.

Do a search for ABC Archer, it's a pretty good template for PVM and will get your feet wet.
