The collection is smaller now. By xmas roughly 150 pieces were sold but 40 new pieces were added so its a little different now than before. During my peak, I've had close to 600 pieces about 2 years ago. Right now, I think Nails and Orcs collection are lareger than mine. Nails around 400 pieces and Orcs around 300 pieces.

Simply Amazing!!!
Now thats what ive been looking for. I can only hope i can obtain a few things that are that rare.
Makes me want to sell all my junk and try to do some trades.

Hehe, this was the result of buying/looting/selling/trading for the past 10+ years. Mind you I started out like everyone else with 1 item. It was an open book I bought on Pacific back in 1998 for 30k from an player named Greyson. I had a choice of either buying a silver vanquishing broadsword or the open book. Hehe I guess the book won.
Now that you brought this up, actually I would love to hear how people got started in this business. What was your first item? What made you started collecting rares? Was there an influence? Did you have a mentor etc..
I think this would be a positive thing for this board and people would enjoy instead of all the recent rants about dupped items.

I believe at a time when I use to excessively collect I had around 40-60 items.
Prior to AoS, I wasn't interested in collecting since at the time my current game status revolved around pvp. After I moved in RL, I focused my game play more towards my tamer and collecting things (due to downgrading my connection) using the pvp money Ive earned to buy/sell and trade items to obtain more so on so on.
Eventually I built my way up to a few nice items then got in trouble for doing something I should've known better to do then lost it all
*my collecting started with a bag I found at an IDOC with server births* cant recall all of them but I know it had open books, scattered hay and silverware in it.
and incase anyone cares, I got caught wearing a red shroud on tc
Since then I've been on the downlow of rare collecting and collect minor things here/there. Gone through a few EM items, I hang onto brit sashes and old school items etc. I just never got back into excessive collecting.

My first year or so was spent actually 'playing' the game. Gaining skills by killing monsters, attending guild hunts and so on. I was by no means rich.
Then one day I managed to buy a glacial staff for 5k at wbb. Sold it the day after at wbb again for 20k. I made 15k, which normally would have taken me days, in about 5 minutes of work. So I figured, why bother killing monsters and why not trade? So the next few days I spent at wbb, admiring people in full Phoenix (a guy called 'Mandrake had the set. He used to be big trader on EU) and trading. I made a few hundred k in a matter of weeks. That amount grew and grew until I had a castle and a keep and a LT, pretty full of rares. Also I finally managed to get the item I had been wanting since I saw the guy at wbb.. A full phoenix set.
Mind you, this was pre xsharding and pre global economy. Some of the newer players might not realise this, but the economy used to be WAY different. An item could be worth 1m on 1 shard and 25m on the other. For example on Europa I owned 2 ploughs (bought them for a few million) and a knitting (again for a few million). These kinda items were relatively common on EU. While nowadays those items have been distributed over all shards, and people that wanted one just xsharded one out of EU. The best example of this is donuts. Those were VERY common on LS due to an event and very rare on other shards. LS they were 100k, EU millions. Nowadays there's a global price for donuts.
Anyway, I kept trading until I got bored with the small EU economy. I had owned pretty much every item that was 'available' on EU. If a new item popped up a couple of big traders jumped on it and kept reselling it back and forth until someone kept it for their collection.
After a while I had enough of it and stopped trading for the most part and just gave stuff away to friends. I had always been generous, but after a while it was all I did.
I quit after they ruined neon hair, vases, open books, pots and several other rares in span of 1.5 months after about a year of no changes.
Until I returned a while ago
. I took off where I left and was finally able to buy some of the items I really wanted back then. Full marble table, 2 story statue , more event items and so on.
As for my first real rare.. It was true black blessed sandals. I still have them and wear them on my main char.

Back when city of the dead and t2a was introduced, I was playing the shard and running through the cities and checking stuff out..
I walked thru the bone magi pit at city of the dead while a gm was standing there talking to some guy.. Gm dissapeared and a bag was on the ground full of 18 of each necro reg.. At the time the set was almost unheard of and I sold 1 of each for 180m a set back when gold was amazingly exspensive, and I traded the collection for a huge amount of goods..
Also, While playing on Chesapeake in the Guild J-D, I murdered alot of people in felucca and looted there homes..
I ended up gettin Large Vase, 10 sets of phoinex armor, Many open books, Kettle, Pot of Wax, Horse Brush, Horse dung, an entire set of Pure mage reageants, 2 Red 2 story statues and many many more items that i sold for thousands of dollars and started collecting and re-circulating that money into the video game ever since

The bubble gum pink statue and bag came from an Asian event (Balhae). The name of the statue is "Most Fastest Puzzle Solver-Balhae". Both now resides in Riply's musuem on Europa. There is also a counter part won from Arrirang shard and is now in the hands of Orc's on Great Lakes.
