Can I cry on your shoulders? I have just experienced another disappointing example of pure GREED.

A few minutes ago a fellow popped into my Arctic Castle to chat about guildstones, wanting to know if I would sell the guildstone deed locked down on the inner court steps - - and asking if it would convert to a guildstone. When he asked if he could buy the deed, I said I wasn't interested in selling it as BLOG has fond memories for me. He then requested that I let him take a ScreenShot of it in Guildstone Form. He seemed nice, so trying to be very obliguing, I left him inside the castle main floor room, and went out to release the deed which was locked down on the steps outside in the courtyard. The doors closed so he couldn't reach the deed as I unlocked it. So I unlocked the deed and the unexpected happened so fast I knew I had been conned. (*sigh*)

POOF .. it vanished. He was outside (must have used 'leave house' option) and was running off. His name is ******.

****** -- I would have given you the DEED had I noticed your guild title was ****.

Aye Retrieve for the Win! No more stealing... No more unlocking just retrieve...

Sorry for your loss.

Best thing to be added to game in a LONG time. I can now "retrieve" a book from a locked down bookcase and not have to unlock the whole case get the book relock the case and then reset every book in it back to anyone...... now I just retrieve the one I'm wanting and when done I put it right back and only have to reset the one permission..... I just love it!!!!!!

And anyone who comes about wanting crap like that is a scammer..... pay them no mind say "NO" and ban them from your premises.

Thats why even my public houses have way`s to thwart Trams finest criminals.

You won`t get past my port pad which brings you into the house. Unless you know who it is personally..... you should have banned them immediately and continued the talk outside or not at all. No one comes into your house and just wants to make small talk about your shinnies.

I have people come in all the time and look around that is part of having the house public and having "shinnies". If you just put them behind closed doors you are just a hoarder and no one can appreciate what you have.

If someone wants to see it in trade window or somewhere else in the house the retrieve command is now there but before that use detect hidden and ban EVERYONE from the house. If it is on the steps just don't release the items the guy has to suffer.

Sorry for your loss and it s sad that there are losers out there like that.

:( It was for just such circumstances as this that the retrieve command has been added. I can only wish you'd been aware of it. Sorry this has happened.

So fool am I in this case. I have many friends who drop in... especially returning vets needing help.

Old habits die hard. When I moved to Trammel, being able to lock down items and set security levels -- was pure RELIEF. Even the worry of having to keep doors locked was gone. But for years I have always continued releasing and locking down items thinking you have to be next to the item to pick it up or the the message would pop up that the item is too far away for you to do that. Now I know, thanks to friends and these forums, you don't have to release the item if you locked it down to retrieve it. WOW. Nice. But, one has to learn that no released item is safe from another player not beside the item, can use retrieve to grab it and then use the Leave House option to RUN. Clever but - -

This was a simple harsh but not serious learning experience which made me investigate and find out how "retrieve" works. I will also pass the information on to all new players and returning vets.

Thanks MalagAste. How true. I wish I had you in the house yesterday to wake me up when Siladhiel [BOG] came in. I was suspicious but didn't care because I wasn't aware of what he trick he was trying to pull.

Thanks T-Hunt .. it is nice to be able to come here for support and dump on everyone instead of not exploding by holding it all in. haha Today I sure learned it's time I started to pay more attention to new changes in the game. I have got behind in everything.

Thank you Weins201for your post. Like you I leave my house doors open usually. The Arctic Castle is full of white plants representing years of Gardening-work, collecting the white seeds, growing them until there more than enough trees and bushes to fill a castle. White plants look like they are covered in SNOW. Beautiful.. along with the right cheerful Arctic full of SNOW! I leave the house open and on display so others might enjoy the art work. Some get lost in the forest and curse the "joint".

Dear Petra Fyde, thank you for replying. And yes we learn the hard way in this game sometimes so I am lucky I didn't lose much. I think I am more greatful for the wake-up call than sorry that I was robbed which was my first reaction. lol So Cheers. Everyone have a great day. I hope this thread gets read by tons of players who are like me .. unaware or asleep.

I thought the retrieve only worked if you were friended or coowned in the house? If he was on the other side of a door how did he get it?
Very sorry this happened to you though, at least you know that in this case you would have given him the item anyways.

It seems that he was inside the house with a friend or stealthed character outside waiting by the deed and when it was unlocked he took it. The retrieve command would have let Jade get the deed without unlocking it and exposing it to the theft.

Gotcha, I missed the part of a friend helping him. I knew that the owner could have but I thought that the other person used it to steal it. This is what was confusing. Thanks :)

Glad to hear from Petra that there that there is a retrieve command though. Didn't know about that until now. Always makes it worse when it's someone who you'd be more than willing to help if only they had asked.

Thanks Tina. Forgot how much was in the publish, I probably read it but there was so much info, it just didn't register. Matter of fact, just looking at it now, I saw a couple of other things I hadn't noticed before. Think I'll go back and re-read again.

Gosh. This just made me flash back to my first year in Britannia 1997/98, when I twice watched thieves wipe out our guild house, taking every chest, chair, box - you name it. Such a helpless violated feeling. I'm sorry for your loss and being taken advantage of when you were actually trying to be nice. I guess it's because of this fear that the front doors of my house are not open to the public. Friends only allowed inside. The stuff and "pretties" I have are for me only anyway.

Note that once during that first year, I came across a kid (he later verified he was 13) who had great fun using exploding boxes to kill people and loot them. I watched hidden and then later lectured him about why that just wasn't virtuous. We exchanged messenger IDs and talked for 6 months while I explained my side of the world as I saw it. He eventually changed his ways and became a helper to all those in Britannia, upholding the virtures, etc. So some people do come around. Maybe this person will see this thread and return your item. Stranger things have happened.

Hmmm. It sounds like you and I need to talk Jade.

I am the GM of (BOG). Our guildstone was lost many years ago when the original GM left the game and his house fell. Last night one of my guild members said she was able to recover our stone. Imagine my surprise when I came across this thread accusing her of stealing the stone. Although you said the stone that was taken was for BLOG... the stone my guild member gave me was indeed for our guild BOG. Although I am very excited to have the stone back in our possession, I do not condone the method of its retrieval if your story is accurate.

I have kicked the the player in question from the guild along with her two alts for the time being. However, I would like to get some information from you before I make a final decision.

According to ******, she says she had her guild title displayed and that she did offer to buy the stone from you and explained that it was her guild stone. She said you told her it was still not for sale and that although you were polite, you were unwilling to sell her the stone even though you knew it was her guild. Was this true?

At this point I am a little torn. I am not happy about what happened, but I cannot see giving this stone back to you as it is our guild stone after all. I would be happy to compensate you for it, but I really don't know what else to offer. As for whether or not I let ****** back into the guild, I am open to suggestions. As I said earlier, I do not approve of the method, but her intent was to retrieve something that belongs with us.

Here are some screen shots to show you that this is not simply a guild stone that was similar to our guild... but it is actually our original stone:

The member said that Jade wouldn't give it to her. How did you think the member got the stone?

Sounds like the person used a game mechanic that has been recently "fixed" by the devs.

I say put the offender on the rack for a week then let them back in. They can put the star on next years christmas tree.

I'm sort of torn about this one, but I think it comes down to this: Even if it was [BOG]'s guildstone, it clearly had been someplace that decayed. Personally, I think that the guildmate in question should be banned from the guild, period. It was a dishonest way of treating another player, and regardless of the good intentions of the player, that's inappropriate behavior and should never be tolerated nor rewarded.

As for the guildstone itself... by keeping it, you basically say, "I'm okay with how it was gotten." No amount of compensation makes up for betraying a player's good nature and trust. Now, perhaps the OP is fine with letting you keep it, as clearly indicated by the statement that had she seen the guild tag, she would have just given it freely, but I think perhaps you owe her the opportunity to demonstrate that trust by returning the guildstone to her, and let her make that decision.

Sure, from a game perspective, there's nothing in place to force you to give it back... it's one of those "lesson learned" things. But I think you come out as being a bigger person by actually putting your trust in a trusting player and seeing what happens from there.

So if BOG is an active guild the 3 questions I have is

1) How did it get picked up in an idoc or however by Jade?

2) Why would Jade keep a guildstone from the actual active guild?

3) You said BLOG but it's obvious BOG?

Btw I am no way calling you a thief or you got it by devious ways just all confused especially when the guildstone in question has an actual active guild on the same shard.

That's ridiculous. I'm just nosey and like "shiny" stuff so if I see someone in a house that I happen to pass by, I stop and usually chat and if I see something I like, I just might ask if they would sell it. So that makes me just like this guy???

It doesn't matter who believes who.
I HOPE the BOG GUILDSTONE IS IN THE RIGHT HANDS NOW!

Of Course the BOG GUILDSTONE DEED is NOT FOR SALE.
The BOG Guildstone Deed (BLOG=typo in OP) is FREE to that guild.

That's all I should say. But I will, try clear up the issues bought forth, answer anyone's questions and clear up any misconceptions.

That person who came into the castle asking to buy the Guildstone Deed - - how could I be sure he wasn't some kind of Buyer collecting and selling Guildstones or worse yet, transferring Sonoma Guildstones to different shards.

Being extremely tired, with things happening so fast, I didn't even look at HIS name nor guild title - only listened to him to try figure out exactly what he wanted. Turns out he is a she. Seemed nice enough.
When whoever-it-was left house and ran off with the deed, their name was caught by my journal. I figured he was an IMPOSTER with some kind of trick wearing the [BOG] Title. I hoped the culprit would be found before the guildstone deed was lost forever. Thus this THREAD.

The BOG guildstone was found in a chest, while house cleaning accounts I had been holding too long for friends who will not return to UO now. Where it came from, I haven't a clue so, .. lock it down on the steps where everyone can see and hope some members of BOG come to claim it.

Thank you Petre Fyde for the chance to write this.
