Journal Scroll : Is there a way to change the background color in CC ?

I have been messing around with text colors in the Classic Client and was wondering whether, for some particularly colored text, it was possible to change the BACKGROUND color of the Journal Scroll (ALT+J) for better contrast and reading.

How ?

Thank you very much.

Popps give it up already......

I tried for over 6 years to get them to change the default color of the Emote so a person could read it in the Journal because the default color is so close to the background color of the journal it's not legible...

NEVER happened. I finally gave up and resorted to just partying everyone who was using in begging them to please change the color so I could see it.

Had no idea it was such a complicated thing to code in.

I hoped it was feasible because, when messing around with text colors, I found quite a number of text colors having problems to be well readable on the journal scroll.

Is the situation different for the Enhanced Client ? I never messed around that client with text colors and the journal so I am not sure whether the Enhanced Client has improvements over the Classic Client on this particular issue.

Who said anything about it being complicated? It was just simply never done or gotten any significant attention. And honestly this is the first time I've seen this topic come up.

I've seen several appeals for the default emote colour to be changed over the years, but this is the first time I've ever seen a request for the journal background to be changed.
The problem does not arise in EC.

Right. Many shades of speech folks choose do not provide ample contrast to back read within the journal beyond the uber frustrating emote smoke.

Perhaps the dye spectrum offers too many [pastel] colors to choose from to make the journal feature work well... even the on screen view-abiliy. Often times I look down at keyboard to minimize my sloppy typing (making sure index finger is on j not k at least) and the pastel shade of violet witty or timely words from a char I'm chatting with disappears and journal looks like a smudge. I've upped the 'adjust how long speech remains on screen' to allow time to put cursor over text to hilight and read .... it can be a challenge....
one more for the muse/wish bucket

The only way is to edit the art in its .mul file which is problematic since:

1. Those files are difficult or time consuming to edit.

2. Changing .mul files can mess up patching much like corrupted files I believe.

3. People have gotten in trouble for editing files to cheat in the past, and it is possible that the means that detected those changes would also flag harmless cosmetic changes.

A change you are suggesting would probably be pretty easy with UO's hue system that can hue objects and paperdoll components, but as priorities go, I doubt it is even on the dev team's radar.

If you want control over cosmetic changes, use the EC. I know I probably would use that client if it worked with everything. Random question of my own: is there any way to do plague beast lord surgery with the EC or is that just broken with that client?

Change it from beige to blue - and you'll have trouble reading the blue text... change it to red and you'll have trouble reading the red text...

Changing the background color will never work so long as folks use text colors that do not contrast well.

exactly what I was about to say hehe...

if the journal was a bit darker the light emote tones would be easier to read as is...

Well, it should not just be a new default background color but it should let players to change the journal scroll background color at their pleasing so as to match better contrast with the whatever text color they feel to use.

For example, say that I want to pick a very light color for text, on the current journal scroll background color, a light text might not contrast well and so be readable with difficulties.
If I had the ability to, say, "darken" the background color of the journal scroll, I could reach the end result that my text color of choice could be more readable on the journal.

That's the type of thing I was thinking about.
