Jeremy: Any update on Siege ROT?

We have now had our opinions sought twice on this issue and the overwhelming response has been to increase the daily gains and reduce the length of time it takes to get them. Have there been any further thoughts on the developer side?

I agree, we have been very patient and we have had no responses. ROT needs to be fixed, we keep losing our new players cause they dont have the time to put into rot!

(Maybe we should even consider char transfers to here!)

ps: or turn it off completely for a short time till yas figure something out!

I have to agree

Last September I decided to finally finish my Siege characters on three accounts. I had all three characters into RoT by early October.

Two characters are mages and I ran magery up to GM first, then turned up eval , med and focus and just farmed gold for gains. Right now neither character is above 90.0 in any other skill.

One character is a fencer and he's the most developed but most skills are close though not completely finished. Then he needs a few powerscrolls before he'll be done.

I dedicated myself pretty solidly to training them and playing on Siege for four months. The last couple months I've been busier with rl and with the crafting changes I've been having a good time on Pacific.

During the four months I spent mostly playing Siege I rarely ran into anyone outside of Luna, I didn't meet anyone to befriend although Krystal did pk me once or twice. I think she likes me. LOL.

If nothing else at least the daily caps need increased. It takes way too long for a new player to make a character currently. I have a keep and an 18x18 on Siege so I haven't given up on it but I've definitely lost interest as of late.

yeah seriously!
rot kept me off siege since it came out, basically.

ten years later id like to powergame to my heart's content please. no artificial barriers to advancement for me, thanks. EVE Online and WoW have plenty of that.. and i don't subscribe to them.

I like this formula:
70.1-100- 5 mins 5.0 total gains/day
100.1-120- 10 mins 5.0 total gains/day

from 70-120X6 skills would take 60 Days/2 months, much better then the 5-6 months it takes now, and no 15 min wait timers...UGH

It would still take 4+ hours to only work 1 skill at a time and get all your gains in the 5 min timer, I always tried to do at least 2 skills at once so it didnt take as long. The 10 min timer id just unlock everything and be done with it.

I dont like character transfers though.

I was excited when I heard there would be some changes to RoT. While, I have a fully developed char there already I think it's insane the time it takes for newer players to really get involved. This game has changed so much over the years, I think it's time for RoT to do the same.

I agree, please address this issue as soon as possible. Siege is a part of the customer base the same as any other shard, often veteran players that enjoy some of the old ways of UO as Siege is set.

Most, or at least many, polls and threads that are posted generally come to the conclusion that ROT should still last from 70-120 with ROT style gains, BUT with more total gains allowed per day.

Jeremy, this would probably be a fairly simple issue to address, and would stimlulate new, and old inactive players alike, to come to or return to Siege.

Love siege and its oldtime uo feel ( specially running from you Krystal) hate that I cant do anything but run (RoT) for 6 months.

Why not just totally remove R.O.T on Seige, whats the worst that could happen? New players on Siege?

R.O.T isnt what makes Siege and Mungen special its all the other rules that do, that old UO feel....... R.O.T is a huge time consuming obstacle for more than a few people I wish the Devs and the few people that would be upset about R.O.T removal because they suffered through it could see that.

I still have two 8 year old Characters on Siege that at this time have no skill higher than 86. Yeah Im lazy but the R.O.T is partly to blame and so is delicous Beer.

RoT needs to be gone! I play specifically Siege now, but the only thing I"ve been doing is hiding in certain hunting places. Then every five minutes I'll jump out and attack, and then go back into hiding. How can this be fun? lol

RoT needs to be gone!

The recent polls & feedback seemed to show a clear majority felt the RoT system should remain (actually it makes training to cap for many skills MUCH easier in terms of time & resources over the GGS system because you truly ARE guaranteed a gain), it just needs a good makeover to make it more reasonable and less slave to the egg-timer feeling, for casual (most) gamers to be able to complete a char.

We are waiting on news of the plans for the makeover.

I agree Sky. RoT is great for working extremely tedious or costly skills like poisoning, taming, and all crafting skills. RoT does however need modified to accomodate the 100+ skills and also to remove the barrier to entry for many players.

Jeremy, Leurocian, Draconi... ANYBODY?

What's going on with RoT?

I would too...

The Devs should be the ones who decide what would be the best/most practical thing to do...

of course, after they confirm they're intending to do something!

Personally, I think the time between gains should be reduced also. Trying to get gains in a single skill above 100 would take you 50 x 10 minutes, or over eight hours. Many people do not have the time, and when you are training ROT it is often to the exclusion of anything else.

I would favour 50 gains per day at two minute intervals across the board. I don't see the point in having different wait times at different skill levels and it simplifies the whole system.

After 100 I believe 10 min is fine.

Even if you only play 2 hours a day, you will get to 120 in a fair time.
With 13 gains a day, it will take you 16 days to get from 100 to 120, that's not bad.
If you never sleep, you can do it in 4 days.
When I got my powerscrolls for archery, anatomy, tactics and healing, I did not think about when to gain, I just played the game. Only thing I had to care about was to find right level of mobs/players to get my gain.
I did not feel it hard, even when it was 15 min.

When you get to 100, you can PvP. If you want to end up with 6x120, you can take skills like hiding to 70 and drop them when you need the points. There are some skills nice for a newbie, that can be dropped later.

Another idea tossed around a while ago was to increase the individual gains to work like alacrity scrolls. Maybe allow each gain to be in the .1 to .3 range instead of only .1.

I don't care what we end up with so much, as long as the end result brings more people into Siege who are deterred by the ridiculously slow RoT we have right now.

Again for emphasis - I love how RoT works, and I don't want it to disappear, but it definitely needs adjusted, soon.

You and that dang crossbow scare me more. *Looks over his shoulder* *Hears a Thump, Thump, world turns grey OoOOOOoOoOo"

Seriously after playing this game for 8 years on prodo shards I gave Siege a try and I love everything from the economy to the reds (yes even Krystal), the strong community. Everything except the LOOOOOOONG trip to Character Completion since I can only play maybe an hour a day. I am looking at a year to finish the char. Please fix this PLEASE

Hooder, have you made friends or joined NEW? If you need anything at all, just make a post on the Siege forum. There are always plenty of people willing to help a Siege n00blet out..
