Saturday night saw a new location for the Best Shot in the Realm, a monthly archery contest held for the archers of Baja to compete against each other for a million gold prize, an engraved bow claiming them the champion of the land and a chance to compete in the yearly shoot-off held at the end of the year.

Misfits of Society, the hosts of the BSR, felt that perhaps the buttes were only malfunctioning at Skara Brae Fairgrounds (the original location of the BSR) and decided to hold this night's event at Hearthfire Village.

A plot with two buttes was erected at Hearthfire and gates were provided in Luna so that all that wanted to participate could arrive at the new location.

After a reading of the rules by Toni Fierce, the contestants were called up by two's to take their best shots. Richard Lionhart, Happy Fool, Nemesis, Abby, Sabi Storm, Rawhead Rex, Toby, Ahebban, Noxx, Debi and Taliesin said good luck to each other and the contest began.

Unfortunately, the buttes used in this contest were just as bad as the ones at Skara Brae, so there were no high scores recorded that this reporter knows the talented archers represented in this contest were capable of.

Some bullseyes were scored, feathers flew, buttes were missed at times, and the wind got a hold of a few arrows, but when all was said and done, after a five-shot shoot-off, Toby bested his opponents and walked away with the 1 million gold check and the title Best Shot in the Realm, January 2012. Congratulations, Toby!

Some special notes from the evening: Best Dressed goes to Nemesis, for her enchanting ensemble. Best pie thrown goes to Sally. Lowest score of the evening goes to Noxx, with a score of 12. Taliesin comes in second with a score of 15 (but he seemed extremely happy that he beat Noxx by three points).

Special thanks goes to Lady Godiva for honoring us with her presence, it was wonderful for you to take the time to come out and support the archers and the contest!! Also to Debi for resetting the buttes, Noxx for the gates in Luna, Nemesis for setting out the benches, and Ahebban for keeping Toni straight.

Thank you, archers of Baja for continuing to support the BSR and to all of your fans that come out to support you!

The next BSR will be held on Saturday, February 25th at the SKARA BRAE FAIRGROUNDS!!! at 8:30 pm pst (10:30 cst, 11:30 est). We hope to see even more archers in February and until then, Bows up!

P.S. If anyone has any pull with any butte fixers, please contact Toni Fierce, and thank you!
