So a guy said he had a GM come give him a verbal warning for saying **** and I didnt believe him so I said it in general chat and he wasn't lying, in less than 30 minutes I was in jail and got a verbal warning.

Really this is the stupidest thing I've thing I've seen happen in UO in the 8 years I have played it.

What surprises me is more seeing a Game Master actually replying to a page within 30 minutes while I waited for many many hours the other day (like 13+).

I think that if you did something that someone told you they got into trouble for doing, to test whether they were being truthful about the getting into trouble part, you kind of earned it.
I think the moral of the story is to not do something there is a case for getting into trouble for.

That is amazingly pathetic, especially given how little they will do on active harassment. And given how many times over the years I have been told by GMs that profanity is not, by itself, actionable.

And how many times I see racial slurs being openly used in general chat.

And how many times I see blatant slander in general chat.

Etc.

In-game customer service has always been one of UO's worst weak points and it's only gotten worse over the years, the further they have moved it from dev control and more automated and centralized at the EA level.

I don't think I know how that really relates, outside of the realm of shoehorning.
a slave girl received some level of punitive response for profanity in general chat, from which it is not unreasonable to draw a "don't do that" message, which is a reinforcement of the overall "obey the rules" message which is a term of service.
You are right that cheating elsewhere in game is an issue that should be addressed, however it would seem to have little bearing as a counterpoint to the moral of the story which I suggested.

General chat imo was the worst thing they added to this game. Yes many other games have it but in todays age with icq, vent, skype, ect ect it's really not needed. Its abused mostly in all games for gold spammers and **** talkers. I have seen a few times some racial slurs. Its pointless to really have it.

Even when players make their own channel you always have some squishy ruining it for them eventually.

If players really talk like that everyday irl I suggest go educate yourself a little more. Us humans should be a little smarter then that to have a cuss word every other word in a sentence.

I highly doubt most work places allow this kind of language being used openly or they wouldnt have a job. Why they allow it in a game is beyond me but hey its Bioware and EA for you. I know some games they instantly ban you for abusing GC.

Players have complained and there has been threads discussing GC maybe they are finally doing something about it. Yet again, players asked for GC in UO so in the end Bioware and EA can say "it's your problem"

I've heard alot of people mention being banned for saying things in gen chat lately, just profain smack talk... be nice if before they started laying a ban hammer for something like this, they'd atleast send out something... like watch your language or face the hammer!!

And quite frankly I'm glad. They should ban folk for their nasty behavior... now if I could just get them to come to the EM events and put the smack down there.


I've seen some really nasty stuff in Gen chat. But it's like I told Cal... If you do put the smack down folk will get the message loud and clear that that sort of behavior is NOT tolerated and they will stop it. But if you all keep letting it slide it will only get worse.

There's no point in proving yourself to some noob online, and the harassment policy is if the guy says "please stop" and you don't, you get in trouble. People like that and also take up for a person like that all share the same one and only brain cell they have in their head. Its called the "ignorance is bliss" brain cell. If the GM is making excuses for this person actually reflects upon her and the rest of the members. One bad apple can ruin the barrel as they say.

Well I was hauled to jail and the GM spoke to me in the red GM speech and issued me a verbal warning and said if I do it again I may get suspended. Then he sent me back to an idoc I was watching.

I thought thats what the profanity filter was for, for those with sensitive ears.

That's why I didn't believe the guy when he said he got hauled to jail for the S word.

I didn't curse at all before I played UO, it made my mouth feel dirty.

Then...

I met super and uber cows on Test Sosaria in 2004or 2005.
