Jacob's Pickaxe

On UOGuide it states

"A series of new player quests provides you with basic skill functionality. You can do them even if you are not new player, however only once".

and, "Jacob's Pickaxe is a quest reward for successful completion of The Delucian’s Lost Mine New Player Quest, which is given by Jacob Waltzt The Miner Instructor who is located at the Mountains near New Haven".

Im at lvl 70 mining and when I talk to Jacobe Waltzt he tells me that, "I can't teach you for you know all that I can teach".

I have never done this quest...or any quest for that matter.

How do I earn a Jacob's Pickaxe at my skill lvl?

There are 2 other NPC miners/smiths at Jacobs location....will they award me the pickaxe?

The New Haven quests are for characters that train up a skill to about 40 (if they want), then accept the quest. These quests all require you to then get to 50 skill in order to get the reward.

Your current level is too high to do this quest.

Do it with another character, or soulstone off your 70 mining, buy it up to 40 (400 GP to Jacob), and do the quest. (note you can't have any skill gain quests active when you buy skills up). You can always delete the skill (or replace it with your 70) afterward.

BTW, if you put mining gloves on, THEN equip the pickaxe, the two bonuses will NOT stack above 100. But, if you equip the pickaxe, THEN the gloves, it will go over 100.

Basara,

So are you saying that I could get up to 115 mining skill with Jacob's Pickaxe and the +5 Mining Gloves equipped? I followed your instructions and I can still only get up to 105 mining. Let me know what I am doing incorrectly.

Thank you,

No, what I an saying is that the Jacob's pickaxe will normally not raise your skill above 100. IF you have 90-99.9 skill, equipping the pickaxe will only take you to 100, not your skill +10. This holds true even if part of the skill is from mining gloves, so if you had 95 real skill, and had on +5 mining gloves to reach 100, equipping the pickaxe does nothing at all, leaving you at 100.

However, if you put your gloves on AFTER equipping the pickaxe, then it will allow you to get to 105 from a skill as low as 90. It won't take you over 105, because, as I stated, the pick will not take your skill over 100 by itself (or if equipped AFTER the gloves).

Wish I'd read this thread before bothering to do the quest on an alt.:bored:
Oh well, no 115 mining for now.
