It is time for 120 mining!

I think it would be really neat to see some new metals in the future!
New gems and mining themed rares to pluck from the cave dirt or the mountainside!

Make some super rare metals and tie them to imbuing or just simple crafting. The ideas are endless. You could put the ore spawns into dungeons.

IE:
Fire Ore
Silver Ore
Etc...

I wouldn't mind seeing more of a variety of leathers and wood either.

It just seems right now, that unless you are a spawn god who wants to camp the Abyss 24/7 that the resource gatherer of old is now a tamer or warrior! Not someone with a shovel or axe!

No, god no!

I miss the days when having 100 skill meant something. I really dont want to have to work mining all over again. Add more metals, but leave the 100 cap please.

Lol this is just pathetic to read...
Powerscrolls were a big mistake - they helped remove a lot of sand out of the sandbox. No longer was it good enough to just go out and work and do stuff, you could only go out and work and do stuff until you hit 100 and then you had to grind, spend a lot of money, or go to a certain location to get the ability to continue improving your skills, and only then could you go back to working and doing stuff to improve your skills.

You're just moving along until you hit 100 and all of the sudden you have to stop what you're doing and hop on the rail and do certain things that the developers wanted you to do, and only then could you hop back off the rail and continue on your merry way.

Instead of power scrolls. New skill tools that wear out. Or brittle and relic wear out items.

Better yet a public smithy shop like the queens forge with bonus.

Better unique loot on the rare ore eli. Want something that shines, fight for it. Retire those aged mage miners for combat mining. No need to add to the script miners coffers.

The only problem i have with that Warpig, is that my miner is also my crafter. No combat skills and only enough magery to recall (which is going away as i raise a few crafting skills over 100) ... soon he'll be recall scroll only.

I already dont do any type of mining that might spawn an ore ele as it would be almost certain death. Adding danger to mining would mean me needing an eighth char slot (yes please!) so i can make a combat miner. =)

Would be nice and i would be all for it.Unfortunetely whats the point when the most valuable metel one can have now is Iron. Iron! for god sakes IRON! Man everytime I think about it makes me want to take a pogostick and use my over 250pounds to pounce on the person who pushed to make this game in the direction where everything thats easy to get is more useful than anything thats harder to get.

Wow... good point. Have i mentioned my love/hate relationship with imbuing (mostly hate as i loved my other crafters)? I hadnt really thought of the fact that i have barely used any special materials since I came back to UO about a year ago ... that has to be a bad sign right? =)

First off to the OP, have you actually talked to the seafaring folk about how they feel regarding their pleasure and privilege to work that skill to 120?

I agree we could use some new metals, but more importantly we need for all special materials to make sense within the context of the game and their
usage. After we see what the carrot looks like, and how metals and the products made from them would stack up in usefulness vs other types of materials I might be for it. I would, probably, not be greatly excited, but I could be for it if it seemed to make sense.

i agree.. val ore is so rare then you lose 65% of it?

plus since you cant imbue damage on a weapon why not make it enhance with the big gems to get it?
like fire rubys for 100% fire.. and blue diamonds for 100% cold.. give something a 120 smith can do to make nice weapons.
even if 100% is 100 gems, im for it.

then you can do something like 50 gems is 50% so you can make a 50 cold 50 energy weapon.

Crafter

100 carp
120 smith
120 tailoring
100 arms lore
100 fletching
100 tinking
10 music w/15 on ring and bracelet and 5 with singing axe (10 music arms for elves) 45 needed for crafting bard needs.
85 magery for carp crafting using gear skill pumps

Gathering Temp
100 mine with +5 ringmail gloves
120 smith
100 lumber jacking
120 fishing
75 chivarly
archery, 90tactics (and chiv) can be pumped with gear to reach levels desired right down to adding anatomy.
Heal and jacking can be stone flipped.
Horselord is this templates cure all

Imbuer Garg
120 imbue
100 alky
120 throwing
120 tactics
100 anatomy
100 healing
100 chivalry
(nothing like hunting your own loot to unravel)
mine flips alky and healing with stones

4 characters left for the Tamer T-hunter Sampire SpellChucker

8th character slot can be called SoulStone / SoulStoneFrag / Crafted SoulFrag. With theese SwissSkill Template adjusters anything is possible. Not like Cooking or Begging needs to always be on a character.

Then there is always start a 2nd - 5th account and cover all those dreams.

I support this idea! Combine it with a BOD overhaul (seriously valorite hammers are WAY too hard to get) and I'd be a happy crafter for a long time :)
It's funny, last night I was thinking that mining needs to go to 120.
I would go to 120 mining just to have a better smelting percentage for the high end ores. Also treasure hunters w/120 mining could get an increased search radius.

And yes valorite hammers are practically impossible to get. I think I've turned in a million BODs and spent years trying to get a valorite hammer. I have gotten one, only because it bumped up from a different reward.

Also most of the runic hammers are now useless due to imbuing. How about adding a quest to turn in low end runics to bump them up a grade. For example turn in three golden runic hammers in exchange for an agapite runic hammer.

No point in bumping up runic hammers as dull hammers are the most wanted!! Just like Iron!! Seriously they messed up the whole system of the harder to get the more useful it is. People would rather turn in shadow, copper, bronze, gold, agapite and val hammers for countless dull hammers "How horrible this system has become!" just like people only would hunt for 1 mod items instead of the chance for the higher harder to get 5 mod items with whats needed which they leave behind.

On a side note val hammers are not that hard to get it just takes dedication and large library. I still have my library and it's still capable of popping out 3-6 val hammers a month and countless others if i work on it. I am always 1 bod away from the next val hammer after what I call a cycle.

I say bump mining and lumberjack to 120, then one can make an archer w a 120 slot and switch out fishing/lj/mining...

I really don't know what I'm doing wrong.... You say to work smarter not harder. Does this imply scripting??? Does the RNG God luv you and hate me? I can turn in about 1500-2000 bods and get one Valorite exceptional 20 BOD. Plz fill me in... I am clueless.

Considering how far along I am to a first val, 4 of 7 BODs. Ya I'd say script BODing across all shards. Script mining. Script BOD filler of scripted BODs and Ingots. There maybe two people in all of UO that may have honestly earned a Val hammer. Also remember all those vals for sale was products of duping the BODs

Todays UO just be easier to build an Imbuer and collect what is needed for an uber suit and weapons. And build a 2nd & 3rd back up sets then try to earn one of the 7 BODs needed for a val hammer. Then there is the RNG of what the runic makes.

You have to have a large bod collection first that takes time. How large is your collection in a given time 100k bods,200k no irons and all fit into a large bods etc? After aquiring such a collection you always 1 or 2 bods away from your next valorite hammer. But note it's being dedicated to bod. In other words 70-80% of your game time is doing bod related activities.
1500-2000 is about right in the valorite fills but of course semi random as rng has streaks. It was much harder before the bump though. Much easier after it. They key is the collection you have. You need a large one and that takes time to aquire from your self,by trading,idocs,etc... Basara should still have a nice collection if still into it. Mines span 3 homes filled with venders and 3daily playing mostly bods from the time they came out. After imbuing I slowed down considerably. before I had ascedule plan with my activities in UO spread throug the week. Weekend were dedicated to bods. And once a hour while am playing i take my multiple accounts to gather bods.

Super rare metals ??

Ain't Valorite already rare enough ??

And sorry, but until scripting for resources is not stopped for good and those using it banned outright (as well as their other accounts benefitting from scripting...), I do not see it as proper to add other "rare" resources which will only benefit scripters who can put way more time into resources gathering than the average player.

So, a big and fat NO from me on this.

Stop scripting, ban the scripters and then my no can become a possibly (depending on details of the new addition).

I am sorry, but IMHO scripting really screws up design and the game for those not scripting and no new addition should be done if scripting is not first dealt with, seriously, and for good.

I like this idea a lot in theory, but in practice....not so much. My miner is a pure crafter and the biggest problem with crafters is no free points. All my other chars have, well some prob have close to 100 skill points from jewelry, items etc... My crafter has zero points to spare. I know i can stone stuff off and on, but for some reason my main crafter is.....well her skills are her identity and she holds them dear.

The second thing is an issue I really wish the dev team would tackle, and that is the usefulness of metal vs leather armor. Leather is all anyone really uses because it's just easier for many reasons.

Metals over 100 skill requirement can require all related skills bump as result - blacksmithy (PS already exist), mining and tinkering (both no PS yet).

I have probably done around 30K bods and never got one...

Two things some of you may be doing wrong.

#1 You're character needs to have a Valorite hammer on them. There is some discussion in the Craftsman forum (check the Craftsman's Data Chest sub-forum) about whether it's good enough to have the hammer in the backpack, whether it needs to be in the top level, or whether the character in fact needs to be holding it.

#2 You need to be holding some kind of blacksmith tool yourself, or at least have it within a foot or two of the computer. Again, read the Data Chest sub-forum - it's up for debate as to whether you actually need to be holding it, if it needs to be on the same desk as your computer, or whether it's good enough just to have one within the same room. I've had good luck just having it on my desk, but a friend claims that just having some blacksmith tools in the garage worked just as well.
