Issues with Pirate Ships

So tonight I decided to go out again to hunt a dread pirate I brought a guild member who was an archer and a swordsman who was in another guild and myself a mystic mage.

Earlier in the day I had a different guild archer with me and after near 20 cannonballs the ship was boardable this time I shot about 40 and It didn't even go to any stage of damage, And I ran out of fuses and had to leave, needless to say I was ticked off because I spent a lot of time making supplies and shots and to be robbed of a rightful capture.

It needs to be fixed.

I'm watching my guildmates blast away at the ship and wondering if we'll ever get to board. It'd be nice if we could see an actual figure for damage by mousing over the mast or something. Then we'll at least know if we are spinning our wheels or not.

Read in a separate thread that it might make a difference "where" you aim your cannons. For example are you just firing them or are you firing them broadside to broadside and targetting the central part of each side. In this post the OP suggested firing on one side and then sailing around the pirate ship and firing your cannons at the other side. They were also using heavy cannons.

Heavy cannon shot followed by some grapeshot but don't fire when your right beside the enemy.

You need to be at least 3 tiles away.

And you do have to damage both sides of the opponent.

We did quite a bit of testing of this last night. And it seemed being right ship to ship you won't damage a thing.

And I agree mousing over the mast or something of the enemy or maybe the enemy ship wheel it would be nice if when I clicked or moused the mast or wheel I got some sort of percentage reading on how damaged it was.

In the EC I was getting weird readings from the mooring lines of things like 16% or 85% but that didn't seem right.... the only thing that we did find was once they quit moving we needed to go to the other side of their vessel and really should have done that earlier but didn't realize we had to fire at both sides.

So my suggestion is try to stay a good 3 or 5 tiles from the vessel... after you kill off the easy stuff and it's just the "captain".... Then once you've disabled their ship swing round the other side. Then board when you get the chance and capture the pirate.
