Issues in Shame

Greetings all,

I just started playing UO just over 2 months ago. My bro-in-law gave me one of his old accts to use. We usually play together, but there are times I end up going solo just because of our schedules. For those times I decided to make a sampire as my solo char. I've been lurking in the background on the forums for awhile, reading up sampires, how to use them, how to suit them, etc.

Last night I decided to head down to lvl 3 shame as I got tired of lvl 2 and wanted to try something different. I had a single air ele dropped me in like 4 spells. It happened so fast as first I thought I jumped by a few of them. Is there some trick I didn't read about for killing spell casting creatures? Granted my skills are maxed out yet, but I thought I should be able to do alright. Currently my skills are:

Anatomy 97.5
Bushido 110.4
Chivalry 85.2
Necromancy 105.0
Parry 109.1
Swordsmanship 104.5
Tactics 104.4

My bro-in-law spent time making me a suit so I could actually fight stuff and get the benefits sampires need. My suit consists of:

DCI 43%
HCI 47%
Mana Regen 6
LMC 41%
Enhance Potions 40%
Damage Increase 94%
Mana Increase 40
Stam Increase 40
HP Increase 5
Resists all 70s in vampire form

Is there something I need to do to take on the elements in level 3? Are my skills not high enough? Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

Add Resist. Also if you get cursed and your STR drops too low your armor will fall off and you'll take massive damage.

Your weapon skill might be a little low for the air eles on level three. Keep in mind if you aren't scoring hits and doing damage you will not leech back enough life on them. They are strongest against physical damage. If you're relying on Consecrate Weapon and are out of mana that's going to be a problem. I assume you do not have Hit Lower Defense on your weapon (or mace & shield) glasses yet, so consider that as well.

Thanks for the replies.

Not sure how I would fit resist in. I guess I would have to drop something for it. I shouldn't lose my armor, my strength is 95 and it was made from barbed leather. Is leather armor part of my problem? Should I be wearing platemail instead?

My only 2 weapons right now are a valorite longsword with mana leech 55%/stamina leech 44%/Hit Lightning 44%/Swing Speed Increase 20%/Damage Increase 35% and a valorite radiant scimitar with mana leech 50%/Stamina Leech 44%/Hit Lightning 44% DCI 13%/Damage Increase 35%. Both swords were given to me by other players. They are a lot better then what I had and I have noticed a big difference in my survival rate with them.

I looked up the glasses and I don't see myself getting them for a long time. That's a lot of axes and shields to turn in to get 800k in points for them. Unless of course someone is feeling generous and gives me a pair lol.

I honestly have no clue if I was paralyzed or not. It happened so fast I was dumbfounded. I've been staying up on level 2 and just looting everything I can so my bro-in-law can unravel it for the relic fragments. He is going to make me some new weapons. Looking at the ones I was given, should the Hit Lightning be replaced with Hit Lower Defense? From everything I have read I need the Stamina and Mana leeches on my weapons, the Swing Speed Increase to swing faster, and the Damage Increase so I can get that to 100%. So I'm guessing my weapon should look something like:

Mana Leech
Stamina Leech
Hit Lower Defense
Swing Speed Increase
Damage Increase

From what I understand about imbuing, you can only put 5 mods on any item. So, how would we go about setting up my swords to add Slayer mod to them? Would that replace the Hit Lower Defense? Sorry for all the questions, I'm just kinda stumped on some of this stuff :)

The Hit Lower Defense isn't necessary if your using a single slayer for targeting a specific monster. While I like HLD its much better in my eyes to be doing the extra damage from a slayer. Also the weapon needs to be customized for the temp. Were you not running a sampire having some hit life leech on a weapon is critical. Also swing speed isn't always necessary (its almost always necessary but not always) you want to use a swing speed calculator (there are tons on google) to figure out what you need to get your weapon down to max swing speed. It might not take you any swing speed to get there for example the fencing kama doesn't need any swing speed increase to be a max with 150 stamina.

Creatures with >100 Wrestling I'd suggest as much HLD as possible. I run 65 between M&S and my weapon and I still whiff when fighting UEVs since it's not always active. If the creature has <100 you should still have some HLD especially if you depend on leeches for life since if you don't hit you don't heal. As for swing speed a rule of thumb I've followed is ~30 stamina loss before I drop to 1.5 sec swing speed. You want to swing at 1.25 if at all possible.

Katana allows you to swing at max speed without ssi on the weapon.
EOO + Honor allows you to hit at max damage without slayer on your weapon.
Bokuto allows you to reduce damage you take.

So before you get money for a good suit you can use:
Bokuto with slayer (without ssi)
Katana with slayer (without ssi)
Broadsword with ssi (without slayer)

My swordsman is able to kill fire elems at Shame without any healing (no life leach, no vamp form, etc) using honor + feint.

Thanks for all the help. I will definitely be looking into the katana and bokuto, especially if I can get away from adding Swing Speed to the weapons. That opens up a slot :)

So without needing Swing Speed, I'm guessing I can have something like this made:

Slayer
Mana Leech
Stamina Leech
Hit Lower Defense
Damage Increase

I guess it's time I did some research on weapon specials for all the swords. Didn't know about Feint, and that sounds like a way to go too.

Feint is great but its a bit rough your going to have to get used to changing up your weapons fast. I use fencing to have feint and armor ignore on the same weapon (a leaf blade), of course with fencing you trade off that the only whirlwind weapon you have is the kama. Its a constant balancing act in UO but if your good at swapping weapons then you can easily get past that.

Bokuto is good vs monsters that cast a lot of heavy spells (fire elem, for example)... in case when your equipment is not good enough to heal (leach) all damage you take.
