Is this shard pretty much dead?

How's the population of Siege these days compared to other shards? Is it pretty much a lonely desolate empty wasteland of depression and sadness? I remeber playing back in the days of AoS and things started to taper off; siege just never seemed compatible with the whole "required farming for artifacts" system that was introduced and all the pvp battles started migrating to god-awful Luna. Not to mention devs have shown time and time again that Siege has been an incredibly low priority. How is it today?

I have read your last 3 previous responces to threads... All I can say is it was a pleasure toasting you with pets and ganks in Luna.

Seems your backside is sore and maybe even more so because you gave up on the game. WE never left and the games still here.

And the guild you mentioned... <A> or some such... never heard of it. Just let me know via PM or posts and I can bring back some of that sweet luna action.

The shard population is extremely low, it cannot be argued. It reached critical mass a year or so ago when numbers reached a point at which shard activity became too low for any realistic recovery. The PvPers moved to Atlantic because there were not enough people to fight, and many people coming here are put off by how quiet it is.

As you stated, the Devs have done next to nothing to try and help Siege, despite our pleas. This isn't simply a case of not putting in rules changes, they have demonstrated that they have absolutely no understanding of the shard and couldn't care less about it. They fail to see Siege as a different kind of product, just a regular shard which is too troublesome to maintain. They did not allow Siege to keep unique EM rewards when they were removed due to the usual whines and moans from the prodo lowlifes, they did not keep the NEW advertising books despite them being a big boost for the short time they were there, and worst of all they are not prepared to promote Siege. We had a real boost to the population a few months ago when the shard was promoted by Petra Fyde of Stratics, which shows what can happen if someone "official" speaks out about us. This is extremely short-sighted in my view, as Siege was often a place that those from normal shards came to at the end of their UO days, and they may have been able to appeal to some of the "classic shard" lovers with a bit of effort.

Unfortunately, the population itself has not helped. Too many people have had their own agendas in the past and not looked at the bigger picture, and attempts to promote Siege elsewhere have usually ended up as shouting matches between Siege/non-Siege people. And it must also be said that the UO population itself is undoubtedly on serious decline. One only has to look at the number of threads in UHall these days to see this, and I'm not sure any shard is doing well with the exception of Atlantic.

The current Siege population is small but still a very friendly and generally good-natured bunch. But, as stated above, it is too small to lift itself up by its own bootstraps. The boost we had a while back has subsided and many have vanished into the ether. We desperately need more guilds. I had great hopes that the recently-formed CD guild would replace TnT as the all-round PvM/PvP "chaotic neutral" guild, but they have seemingly disappeared.

You're not being entirely fair. There are too few staff with too much to do for anyone to concentrate on Siege, they'd like to, they just don't have the time to dedicate to it, but concessions to Siege's quirks are included in every publish and expansion. As an example, travel to the new ships is meant to be by recall only - but there's no recall on Siege, so a fudged version of gate was added in to accomodate that. Someone had to code that in especially for Siege.

I got my page promoting Siege's ruleset involving thieves and our easyness getting arti's locked on the Thiefs Forum. I was told I was promoting vendors sales and not trying to get people here. Siege doesn't have a seller forum you freakin idiot. And when the MOD gives you the "If you think my decision is wrong" responce link... I have never seen or heard of someones thread being unlocked... Of a post replaced and apoligy given. At 100 gold (or less) per item you can see why im soooooo rich.

1/2's the games death can be blamed on ownership management... The larger percentage left can be blamed on MOD's opinions and stupid people getting banned for one or two stupid mistakes. IM NO EXCEPTION. I am not casting stones by no means. Stratics is a voice and communication tool. Screw up and lose your voice and suddenly the games alot less funner.

I don't want to trail the thread away... We are not promoted. My attempts to promote siege have ended. (I hate thiefs "moralistic" views but dammit I TRYED getting people here knowing THAT was one of Siege's rare qualitys). EA is letting us die (they hinted at that when I called from the USA and was transfered to INDIA for customer service), this game is old and new kids want new toys. You didn't want Dad's beeping hand held football game, you wanted a Atari, and so it continues, your kids being just like you. Siege's rules basically means they need one whole paycheck devoted to someone programming and fixing us... Wont Happen. I believe that if they were at least honest on that front they'd get more respect. Siege is UO's biggest sore on a dying body... give it a honest hard think and I believe you'll see I'm right. Truth hurts but eventually we know what happens to a dying body... Dead. I'll most likely be here to the end. Long Live Siege.

The main issues were that the dev team never showed any interested or care for Siege. Around the time of AoS there were some game breaking bugs and powerful exploits that went unfixed for a very long time. It also doesn't help that the expansion packs and the direction UO has gone in terms of item/artifact farming is simply not compatible with the Siege Ruleset. Increasing the world size exponentially also didn't help matters as the only place you could find PvP action was in a few key hot spots while the rest of the world was empty.

And yes, Luna did give me bruised backside and helped me lose interest in the game given that nearly all PvP was happening there and there was little skill in it; all it amounted to was ganking, people exploiting the guard zone and exploiting tweaked out houses in the square for an advantage. I'm sorry but it just simply wasn't fun and was one of the worst locations for fair and balanced pvp, for some reason it didn't stop people from flocking there in numbers. I enjoyed wilderness and dungeon pvp; something that was non-existent on siege by the time I left.

You are questioning a moderators actions. Don't.
Your thread on uo thief began with the sentence 'restocked all my vendors again'. If that's not promoting your vendors I don't know what is.
You were told to post on your shard board - which is exactly where Siege sales are posted.

Wrong decisions can, and are, reversed. I looked at this decision at the time. It was not a wrong decision.
I strongly suggest you take some time to read our rules of conduct.

I think I am being fair. I have never gone on at the Devs too much about their lack of coding things, especially when the Siege population could rarely agree on what changes were needed. But it would not have taken much Dev time for them to give Siege some kind of promotion on the Herald, or to keep the NEW advertising books, or to let us have kept the event rewards, etc.

the NEW books I think they were between a rock and a hard place, accusations of favouritism will always get people backing off.

The main issue of conflict is the entire Siege ruleset is not compatible with the current UO model ever since it became about item farming and artifacts. The dev team could have made Siege and UO as a whole a lot better if they focused improving the existing content rather then introducing a new map to thin out an already too thin population. The world became too big for it's population on all shards and the direction of UO's production shards was a large contrast with the siege ruleset... the need for all powerful rare artifacts and magical items to be effective doesn't work so great when dying means you lose everything... This wasn't at all an issue prior to the itemization of the game since you didn't need uber gear to pvp. basic gear + skills were more than enough to compete on all levels. Since AoS Siege has had an indentity crisis that was never properly addressed; siege would need to be fixed and properly updated before advertising and promoting it would save it.

I started on siege last month after a 6+ year hiatus and I've farmed very little, and have a suit better than most people along with a weapon that's just as good as almost any top end pvp weapon. almost no farming asside from what I did while gaining skills.

Since your going to make a comment about that thread, A BUMP said restocked again... A BUMP. The thread STARTED with a attempt to draw people here. I'm very sorry that the people in power over that forum don't want me pulling people from THIER shard.:eyes:

And you are not to question mods, you are not to talk about anything that might have a mods attention, you cannot even talk about YOUR OWN PERSONAL EXPERIENCES with mods. Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely.:fight:

Every post you made in that thread promoted your vendors. You don't post selling threads in uo thief and you don't 'bump' threads that aren't selling threads. You were out of line. You are STILL out of line.
If you want to encourage people to come to Siege do it with less self-interest.

You can question mods actions by emailing [email protected] but if the rules are clearly broken the mod's actions will be upheld. It's pretty simple and power abuse doesn't come into it. Questioning mods actions in public is not, and never has been, allowed. This is the last thing I will say about this in public.
Since this is currently in the public eye, this is the locked thread in question. http://vboards.stratics.com/uo-thief/242091-siege-steals-your-heart.html

Stratics is a free resource for players and alot of people work hard to give us content (i.e. guides etc). You're not required to pay a penny for using this website. For that fact I am very grateful and happy with Stratics. That shows by how often I keep coming back to here.

And really Guardian, if you're not happy then just vote with your feet. Don't visit it anymore. Its that simple really.

Please people, look at this thread. Judge for yourself. Am I attempting to make a sale or drag people to our shard? Granted I promoted the vendors, but I believe every bump or post was to GET people here and that MY EFFORT was to make it easy for them. No looking for stuff, its right here and you can start playing immediatly was my point.

Please dont post a responce, just let whatever decision you make guide you in posts you make in the future.

Honestly I think there are some changes that would require little coding, and do a world of good, the main reason they don't do them is because they want to make sure that they wont do more harm than good. Which requires testing, and time, which, obviously they can't invest.

But eventually I think that they should just implement any simple fix they can get a real player majority vote on. Cause I mean, the shard is just shrinking and shrinking, so what the real harm?

Yeh some more things could be done.

If I remember correctly when we had all those polls and questions some people did suggest lowering the silver price on faction arties.

I can't imagine that require a huge amount of coding but its all about time :(

all i have to say is...

would every single player who thinks about comming back just start to play instead of asking is it worth it, is the shard dead, what has to be done from others so i would come back.... siege wouldn't be a crowded place.
i know there is a lot the devs should/could do. but when we wait til they do it to play it again... siege is dead.

siege is still the best place to be!

I wonder at what point they pull the plug on siege. I've been playing Dark age of camelot for a few years and they addressed the declining population by merging all the servers into one server. Well you can't do that with siege.
