Is this a real KR bug or an urban legend?

"My problem has been resolved. For some reason the KR client allowed me to create a necromancer even though I had not activated age of shadows. I downloaded mordains (spelling?), used the code and now have full access to everything.

I figured out the answer on my own. While using the 2D client I clicked the necro button on the class selection screen and a message appeared stating I didn't have the appropriate expansion. However, KR allowed me to click the button and enter the game as a necro. "

This would be an issue if you had to buy each and every expansion to add on the Latest expansion. As it stands you can buy the latest version of UO and you get all predated versions as well. For example : World of War Craft just released the latest expansion of their own "Wrath of the Lich King". To be able to play this expansion you must buy each predated expansion. Being the 3rd release in the set this forces you to buy the Original, and the Burning Crusades, THEN buy and add Wrath of the Lich King. Ultima Online does not flow in that way on most retail store sold or downloaded trial activations.

The point of course is that this loop hole is client side and no restricted and forced out by the server. Allowing someone to download a new client that does not check for the account restrictions thus blocking access to these selection.

I feel they should simply upgrade all accounts to the N-1 expansion and tear out all the older checks. If people were going to upgrade their un-upgraded accounts after a couple of years, they would have done it by now and there can't be much value in maintaining all the checks for all possible expansions during testing (if its done at all).
