Is the SA expansion required to use the new client?

I met a young character today who is a returning player. He is currently using the 14 day free trial with a new account, but would like to reactivate his old account. He very much likes the new client and asked me if he would need to purchase an upgrade to use it with his old account. I know he wouldn't have access to the new content without upgrading, but can he still play the new client without upgrading?

Thanks, Viper! I'm sure he'll be tickled to learn that. He says he really does like the new client. One more question if I may, my video card is not supported for the new client so it may be a while before I play it. That means I have no idea how things work in it. He also asked how to change his text color. Do you know of a tutorial site I could refer him to for all these little things he might want to learn?

Mmm. Personally do not know of one. The option for changing text color should be somewhere in the options for the client.
