Alive, but no power still, have to start the car to charge my phone, but gas is also hard to find and it's an hour wait once you do so only charging my phone to keep it up to 25%. Had to drive to the Heights to find wifi and it's overloaded so only getting 30 seconds of connectivity every 15 minutes. So much brush and trees down Houston is soon to become the wood furniture capital of the world. Sister-in-law's dad and another friend both lost their houses. Another friend's mom had 2 feet of Galveston Bay come visit her living room. Thankfully, the weather is unseasonably cool, down into the 60's at night, but its supposed to warm back up this weekend plus some rain. AC duct got torn off my roof, so getting... natural light... inside the house. Not a problem, at least til it rains, lol, but also sucks because even when I get power back I won't have AC til the ductwork gets repaired, which could be at least a week or two.

I feel for you Tancred! -Glad I moved away from Houston (Hurricane-town,) to Austin. I might show up though with a chain saw and a few six packs. I remember going through Alicia with no power or ice for a week, and boy was it hot.

45% of homes now have power, but still not me. Cold showers and shaving in the dark sucks. I try and do it in the morning when the sun hits the windows in the east closest to the bathroom. Just like never knowing how much stuff you really have til you move, our civilization and technology is sooo dependent on electricity. Many stoplights still dont have power and friendly waves to "go" through the intersection have been replaced somewhat by honks and arm flailing. My gf miraculously has power AND broadband way out in Pearland so we've relocated there for the time being, which is funny since she was just on the verge of cancelling all her utilities and moving in with me, lol. The power company is breaking power restoration into 3 groups, those who will get it by the 19th(today), those who will get it by the 22nd(Monday) and those who will get it sometime after the 22nd, whatever that means, lol. My favorite taqueria is still closed, altho the grocery store is open with limited hours and limited supplies.
My neighborhood bar about 4 blocks away is operating on a generator that gives just enough power for the cash register, the light over the pool table, a lamp and a tv. Since they can't wash glasses, everything comes in the bottle or a plastic cup. You can trade gas or ice for beer! They have a grill out front where you can get a chicken or steak sandwich, but theyre also letting people come and cook their own food on the grill as well. Curfew has been extended to midnight which means more time at the bar instead of being cooped up at home bored by candlelight, altho I was starting to go to bed around 9 just like the olden days, lol. Things are getting better, with a mild sense of humor and a little patience everything is bearable Now if only I could get a job! If anyone needs or knows someone who needs a Solaris/Linux/Windows sysadmin with SAN/NAS, PCI-DSS, ecommerce and DC with 8+ years exp drop me a line!

I just got power back an hour ago! Finally, after 2 weeks to the day, air conditioning, broadband, refrigeration, cable tv and hot showers are back!
I really enjoyed grilling but, after the past 2 weeks, I'm gonna give it a break, lol
