Is Doom borked?

My cousin and I got bored and headed to Doom for a few weeks. You know, we go down there, run the gauntlet 4 or 5 times, then log off in the mage room and do it again another day. Basically until our armor needed repair.

This happened over a period of 3 weeks. No one else ever joined in, it was always just us two. A few of the times I actually ran solo because he wasn't around.

At the end of those 3 weeks, He dropped a total of 5 arties, and I dropped zero. None. Not one.

Not that it should matter since there was only two of us, but I did more damage than him each fight.

Any guesses as to why? The point system was never this bad to me in the past.

I thought DOOM was on a point system
Me too.... but I still think that for folk like me who have some sort of negative luck.... it takes 10X the amount of points for me to get a drop than for anyone else.

It is. More points increase your chance of a drop the more you have until you reach the point where you are guaranteed a drop. I did doom for a really long time after the points system and never got a drop, while some people got many. Just luck.

If its a linear progression of points, then drops should be roughly equal amongst participants over a given span of time. "Luck" would literally have no foundation in such a system, as the drops are "guaranteed."

If the OP is telling the truth, and we have no reason to call him or her a liar, then the system is somehow broken for their character. Having experienced bizarre, character-specific issues in the past, I'd suggest that the character's internal scripts are bugged. A GM might be able to help.

I think it's more than just RL luck. I've never gotten an ancient SOS while fishing, one in 20 or 25 odds? Yeah, right...

It works like the ToT system did. Every "point" you get increases your odds of getting a drop, up until you get one for sure, rather than just getting x points then a drop happens. So the rate that people get them can and will be different, but eventually you will get one.

Sounds like you're having a run of bad luck. Without knowing the exact numbers behind point distribution in the Gauntlet, I would wager a guess that the chance for a drop, which increases with every boss you kill, increases at an extremely low rate since the rate of killing in the Gauntlet is going to be necessarily slow. Out of curiosity what kind of templates are you and your cousin using?

Did you cheked your bankbox after exit of Doom?
Sometimes artis are placed in bank because "...your backpack is full..." even if there is enough room in your backpack.

He's a tamer and I use a bard/mage.

And to the other post, yes I checked my bank box. I have experienced that in the past where drops jumped to my bank (even without my pack being full) so it was the first place I looked.

ive noticed, some of my chars get lots of drops and some don't, I have no idea why. mage type chars seem to get more than my fighters. I'm fine with it.

It's quite possible that your cousin is topping you on the top attacker list. Remember that his dragon is taking damage, dealing damage, and getting healed by the tamer, of all of which are factors in the ranking, in which case, he could be getting more points than you. However, you should still be getting points as well and 5 vs. 0 does seem like quite a discrepancy indeed. This is all just speculation though.

The overwhelming majority of drops there are really only worth turn in points anyway. And the ones that are worth it have mostly all come down significantly in price over the last year (on Atlantic atleast). So I would say you're not missing much.

A revamp of monsters and loot would be nice though...

I have noticed a big difference in different accounts, though it could be character specific as others have suggested. My tamer does great on drops- EM, Exodus, whatever, and can survive (or only have 1-2 deaths) even really large EM battles most of the time... but I tried playing my husband's tamer once and couldn't even keep her alive, let alone worry about loot/drops. It was terrible, like her very existence pulled aggro off the dragon. He also has lousy luck on his main (an archer) with various drops. *shrug*

Yeap. Both the Doom Gauntlet and the shadowloards (broken remains of a shipwreck) are both great ideas with items not up to today's standards.

My archer, Malag, does alright at EM events gets a drop from time to time... Used to when they first started giving drops get them all the time and often 2 or 3... But then they changed it and he got none for a LONG time. But last time they changed it again he started getting them fairly regularly again... Which is fine by me...

However he can't get a drop in Doom to save his life... He almost never gets a drop from Medusa.... Never gets drops from Peerless bosses... but oddly enough has gotten 2 or 3 from Scalis and countless drops from Corgul... go figure. He never gets anything from the Slasher and only gets the booty prize from the Styngian.

Now my Tamers on the other hand almost never get anything at all. I can't tell you how many times I took my tamers to Doom or the ML peerless while everyone else got drops all the time and I never did. Shoot I can't hardly even get a hair dye of Lady M... I'm fairly sure we did over 100 Travisty runs before I finally got a Crimmy. I almost didn't know what it was. But then the first time I did Navery on my luck tamer she got a Tangle... I don't know how to figure that one. Dumb luck I guess.

Now maybe you could say it's because I have several accounts and don't always use the same one to do things all the time... But I pretty much only use 3 or 4 characters when it comes to doing dungeons and such... Malag, Trilla, Cainon and Euphoria... Rarely I'll use my Sampire Trendallynn but it doesn't seem to matter or make any difference. Trilla and Cainon are both Tamers.... so they are pretty much interchangeable. Euphoria is a Mystic/Mage/Weaver.... but I don't use her for anything but Exodus pretty much. I'm not so good with mage types. Malag does pretty much everything... Trendallynn gathers stuff in the Abyss and that's about it and I've decided I suck at Sampires.

Trilla used to do Doom all the time... but I found it frustrating that she never got drops so I quit using her. She has a really good luck suit and everyone else seemed to benefit from that but she never did.

Went down there for the first time in years last weekend. Likely over 1000 runs over the years, 99% sure I've never had a drop :)
