Is Crystalline Blackrock attainable from somewhere other than the Cavern of Discarded

It drops in your pack when you mine in Ter Mur. The miner that I've used in the last few days to get it is already GM, but I think there's a possibility that you may be able to get it with mining skill that is less than GM. My guess is that mining skill of 83 or higher may be enough. It doesn't drop very often and is very hard to see in your backpack and seems to have a tendency to want to hide under other stuff in your pack. If your miner is GM, you may also still occasionally get drops of "a small piece of blackrock," which is not the same as "crystalline blackrock."
The message you'll see in your journal when you get the crystalline blackrock from mining is, "Sifting through the ore, you notice something unusual among the bits of metal and stone."

Thanks Tina, we've got 5 miners at 100 (105 with gloves) I think. We have mined a lot of ore over the years, and we're very used to blackrock drops. I'll try the Ter mining immediately because pretty much all the drops at the Cavern of the Discarded are rare.

my datapoint for the evening:
elf, ore+gems, 105 mining in Ter Mur: 2500 assorted ingots, 3 crystalline blackrock
( one of the crystalline blackrock was inside the Royal City guard zone )

I mined most of the day yesterday in Ter Mur (gm + 5 gloves).
I didn't get any crystalline blackrock in my pack.

Hope elf helps. My elf miner was prospecting for mining when the Ter Mur moongates first opened and he got killed

My miner/LJ (elf with GM mining and high 90s in LJ and who is not wearing mining gloves because they mess up her mana regen) has gotten about 23 crystal shards, 15 crystalline blackrock, 6 slith tongues, 4 void orbs, 4 silver serpent venom, 3 void essence, 1 toxic venom sac, about 450 regular gems, and about 25 ML gems from about 7 total hours of mining and lumberjacking in Ter Mur. Sunday she spent most of the time in a bit of a nasty place where she had to do a lot of killing monsters, running to avoid death, and getting a half dozen pet rezzes; yesterday was spent almost entirely in and near Royal City with relatively few kills and no pet rezzes (used a few runes from the day before for valorite, verite, and yew that were made Sunday in the tougher area and killed a dozen or so void monsters and silver serpents). Didn't keep track of what she gathered in terms of boards and ingots, although she is now up to 1210 yew boards. Hasn't hit GM lumberjacking yet.

She's an elf. I have a similar human character on another shard that I'll try to use today for a bit in the same areas and see if there's a similar yield from mining and lumberjacking. She only has 88 lumberjacking but mining is GM and it looks like her barding and magery are slightly better, so maybe she won't have to run quite as much while dealing with the monsters. I think the lumberjacking's high enough to get the crystal shards. (I started getting them at 83.2 on my LJ on Pacific.)

Thanks Tina, I'll check that out tonight with both my elf and human. Looks like I may have to get a fire beetle for my elf though. Glad I saved my vollems in crystals... seems to me they will come in handy in the wilds of Ter Mur.

I've thought about giving a few of my miner/LJs the vollems but I've been doing the LJ/mining in Ter Mur while riding a fire beetle and towing two pack animals. No control slots left for anything else. I kind of like being able to do the mining at the outcroppings and along that edge strip (where the void stuff spawns) and smack the trees while we walk along. It does get a bit hairy at times though. LOL
What shard are you on? I'll be happy to go tame you a fire beetle if you're on a shard where I have a decent peace tamer.

I'm on Chessy, but no worries about the fire beetle. My human miner has one. If it proves to be worthwhile to use an elf to mine in Ter Mur, I'll just trade the fire beetle to the elf (and retool her template while I'm at it.. maybe a nice UBWS hatchet and a pair of meddabe mining gloves will be in order).

Hit the royal city with my elf crafter miner, 3 spots in got a crystalling blackrock.

While hunting in the areas north and east of Royal City ive found a few gargoyle only areas that are safe and seem to be for mining, theres a few mountain circles with a flight path into center where theres no monsters and seem to be for mining. you could take a gargy there, mark rune, and give to elf miner and have a decent safe spot in wild for mining. ill get a screenie of some of the spots alil later this afternoon.

some random gargoyle pickaxe data from 10 elementals dug up:
3 shadow iron - no drops
3 bronze - no drops
1 gold - 1 crystalline blackrock

My poor miner was just north east of the bank mining along the hills. On the right side, there are those sneaky trapdoor spiders. *sigh*

I have a house east of the City and the mountain runs quite a ways east of my house against the water. All that's there are a few mongbats and little tiny snakes. My fire beetle eats them. I got 12 crystaline and 6 perfect emeralds just going from one end to the other and it's very safe.

heres a couple pics of some safe mining spots in Termur, these are north/slight NE of royal city. takes a garg to reach them but they can mark a rune inside it and give runes to your miner.

Took the human GM miner/88 LJ bard out for about an hour's worth of resource gathering in Ter Mur and ended up with the resources below. Most of the time was spent mining because we were in town on the north end of Royal City and there weren't very many trees to chop for boards.
111 regular gems; 6 ML gems; 5 crystalline blackrock; 1 crystal shards; approximately 1400 ingots; about 900 boards.
Compared to mining/LJ with an elf in Ter Mur, the gems and imbuing ingredients seem to be spawning at about the same rate. Ingots and boards seem low, but that could be because someone else previously mined the same area. The character was not wearing mining gloves or using a corroded axe.
Will update with more info about the crystal shards once I get in more lumberjacking with this character.

The first one is amazingly good - you can probably mine almost ceaselessly there, since it took me around 50 minutes to go from one end to the other, and I expect coming back would take about as long.

ACB, good luck simply mining crytaline BR or lumberjacking for crystals. There was a thread on the subject last week, I wanted to wait until I had more firsthand experience before commenting. I've now spent 6-8 hours with each effort, and it's just a perception, but honestly the drop rates are a bit disappointing, at least in my experience. Having worked the cavern rather hard prior to the change allowing us to "mule" for them (which BTW is actually much appreciated, but...), and again it's just a gut feel, I seem to have done better in the cavern, time to task, with both ingrediants. The only exception I've seen, as Maplestone mentioned earlier, has been with ore elementals and CBR, they are on corpses pretty often. I haven't figured a way to increase odds for LJ crystals. I'm not really "peeved" or anything with the low drop rates, it just sorta seems to me all this addition does is feed the "friendly" neighborhood resource scripter. You'll have to test the waters yourself, to get a feel for what works best for you, the cavern, muling, or waiting for the prices to drop on player vendors. For me, it's probably back to the cavern for crystals and/ or elementals for CBR! Anyhow, good luck!
