I am wondering, are players using brewing in the game much if at all ?

Well, I like brewing. I put the product for free on my free food vendor. The brews are aging and the food is rather stale. (I rarely have to restock.) I guess there's not much of a demand. :bored:

i used it when it first came out, i would prolly return to it if it had some kind of benefit.
perhaps a drunken rage/beserk/ or even a mod where you temporarily feel no dmg but after it wears off you feel the effects. maybe something similar to noble sacrifice where all your stats drop to zero for a min.

hehe it would be cool too if you could poison them and give them to npc's
or make flaming alcohol,maltov cocktails.

I like brewing too. Actually we're distilling, brewing would be for making beer. Which would be nice to have also.

My main house is a sea side tavern, so its an integral part of my own lil RP buble . I sell the bottles a few hundred coins a pop , just for the form. I also have a nice cellar, with kegs marked with special dates, some form release, halloween, x mas day and new years, i want to try and make some for every holiday or special event. Kegs are one of the only craftable items which will hold a date unless you empty it. I find that kind of cool.

I had alot of fun hiding behind the skara tree during the holidays, throwing bottles to unsuspecting folks :p

Just needs more choices in the menu, and maybe some special use for certain spirits.

My issues are:

1. The terrible new drunk effects
2. The lack of things to brew
3. Requiring things such as dates that are a pain in the ass to get

I don't want to run around checking barrels in towns... the items provide 0 benefit and aren't that special. You can't re-color the bottles even! I would LOVE a labeling machine that changes the bottle colors, and additions to the distillery such as ale.

georox... Dates are easy to get begging from elves. Just saying.

I was personally disappointed with the distilling system.

1. It is a no brainer. Distilling was just thrown out there.
2. It is not brewing. It is moonshine.
3. It does not make use of so many ingredients already in game.
4. Orcs? Really? Who made that call? Yeast is a naturally occurring organism that can be cultivated. Yet Orcs have the supply and have to be killed to acquire it.
5.Orcs? Had to say that again. No brewer or distiller has to go slay any living being to make their product.

I could go on... I will not. I will use it best I can.

It's something a number of players wanted but was poorly implemented.

1. The drunk effects are poor. Players asked for a toggle to switch them off. Didn't happen.

2. Not a wide enough selection of drinks.

3. 16 char limit on labels. Players asked for this to be increased.

4. Yeast on orcs. Does not make sense.

5. Begging needed for the dates.

6. Low availability of berries.

7. Copper wire needed to make the distillery. Superfluous.

8. Many players expect to receive a distillery as part of their purchase. What they get is the 'recipe' ie they are able to make one with the appropriate crafting skills.

I still use mine occasionally, but yet again they failed to listen to the players and implemented a half-assed system as part of a cash-grab.

Listen to the players.

hen summed it up rather well.

I think what bothers me most is the lack of variety in drink selection (heck, they even left out scotch), tribal berries as an ingredient (so many other choices would have been so much easier to obtain), and the fact that the label has to be so short, which really limits players who want to create a unique and descriptive label. As for orcs, I agree that doesn't make sense... although I find it both amusing and kind of disturbing to have to kill a creature with a yeast infection in order to make a product you're going to drink. rolleyes:

I like the idea, though, and believe it could be improved if they ever want to give it a little more attention. I won't hold my breath, though.

I agree with most folk. The only reason I bought the expansion was for that. And it was extremely disappointing to the point I've not even done it... not once.

I gathered some yeast... only because I happened to be training some low level pets. Orcs were a good target.

But I intended to use this at my Inn/Tavern. But I've not ever done so. Seemed doomed from the beginning.

I was sad to see there were very few things we could brew. I mean Rum was one of the most wanted things and it's not even on the menu and what about just plain Wine???

I think I was so disgusted with both of those mini-expansions and the half-*** job I thought they did on them that I just wanted nothing to do with it after it came out. Infact the Rustic/Gothic expansions are the only ones to date that I do not have on all my accounts. Any other expansions I've actually bought from day one on all my accounts but I was so ticked off by these that I only bought one copy of each. And truth be told the only reason I bought the one "set" was so that I could have the flowerbed and use the Gothic tiles and still say I could "craft" anything in game. I'm still VERY displeased with both of the expansions.

What made me most upset was these were really about the housing tiles... and it didn't even have a full set of those. There were no doors, no floors and no roof tiles, yet these were supposed to be sets of new housing tiles??? They were a poor excuse to charge the players is what they were. And I agree with a bunch of folk they should have sold that garden bed on the website as a stand alone and probably would have made a lot more money off that than they could off of the housing expansion.

So far brewing is just a in-game gimmick.

But here's a bonus. Prince Caspian is gonna teach YOU how to make mead.

You'll need:
2 Gallons of Water (distilled)
5 pounds (yes, five POUNDS) of honey
2 lemons
1 teaspoon of nutmeg
4-5 gallon brewing carboy (airtight jug)
Airlock
1 package of Montatrachet dry yeast
5 gallon stockpot
A mesh skimmer

Procedure:
  1. Mix the water, nutmeg, the juices of the lemons and the honey in the stockpot and cook it to a boil.
  2. While boiling, the mead will form a white fluffy foam on top. Skim this off as it forms.
  3. When no more form is forming, turn off the burner.
  4. Let the mead cool at LEAST four to five hours. Don't try to bottle hot mead. It kills the yeast and could rupture the bottle.
  5. When the mead is room temperature, pitch the yeast. Add some yeast nutrient if you want.
  6. Cork it up with the airlock. You should see it working after a day or two.
  7. Rack the mead (siphon it to another bottle) weekly to eliminate the must (crud) at the bottom.
  8. When the mead is a clear crisp caramel color and must is no longer forming, it's ready to bottle.
  9. Enjoy!

Way to go, Prince Caspian. :)

I ventured into making mead once, and it wasn't bad! :)

I'll take 5 gallons of the mead please! :D

The distillery was a much-requested feature that suffered from lackadasical implementation. Others have already said what is wrong with the system, all of which could be easily fixed.

In the future, systems like this would benefit from actual player input before any code is written. They could have urged the Devs to forgo implementing things that make a system too OOC (the drunk text barks, the overly wordy and useless "property" listing on the bottles), and helped integrate the system into cooking, etc.

UO needs a real focus group.

On Napa i still sell the berrys, yeast, wort, and kegs.. not as much as in the beginning but its still being done.

I do have to agree it was no too well thought out....

Ingredients for alot are not as simple as they apear to be in the getting for the average joe in uo.
Berrys are not a common thing on savages, I spend a few hours in gathering thise puppys alone, the Yeast.... there is another hour of dull fun (not).

My cook does the wort in a few but to tell the truth its a hastle few others will do.

As for the Dates....... We use to get them from the date palms in Magincia and a few other island palms, along with coconuts. Now you cant find them anywhere except for the begging way... not right in my book.

These days the dev must think we ether have a few extra characters up our sleeves to gm these extra mostly seasonal used skills or the cash to buy more full Soulstones to keep these unusual skills on hidden in some off corner of the house we have.

Copper wire is not hard to get and I am glad they fixed the barrels in buc's to spawn more then once a day again.

Beer and Wine should have been added to the brewing list of things... just think of the wine press that looked like my wheat to flour machine.... (had one on my tower for years as deco to the grape vines I made long before the new ones were a bare thought in a devs head)

I do wish this had come out a few years earlier.... many players I knew would have kept it up and might have stayed longer.

I can think of a few dozzen things that could be added to the gardening, cooking and gathering players could do if they had only thought it out and asked us for imput.

Only thing i found semi-useful/neat is using your brews on empty npc mugs. Once you fill them with your brew, they cannot be emptied by players, and if the brew has your name attached, so does the mug.

Kind of a way to leave your mark on the game.

btw, I got all of Brit on Pacific fel/tram =)
