[Magery] Is 110 Magery Worth Training

Hi,

I can't afford 120 scrolls, but I have 110 Magery, Eval, and Med scrolls. Is there enough advantage at 110 to make it worth spending the time to train these skills from 100 to 110?

Thanks, Katrena

Yes. You will notice a substantially higher success rate when casting eighth circle spells, such as energy vortex and resurrection. I don't typically use 120 magery scrolls, unless I plan to carry a mage weapon. 115 is ideal, but 110 will still be significantly better than 100.

The character that has the 110 Magery scroll applied has Legendary Taming and Lore. If I take Magery and Eval to 110, I would have to remove GM Resist or drop Med to 60. I would think that it would be better to keep Resist and go with 60 Med. Is this the best way to go, or are there other alternatives that I don't see.

Thanks, Katrena

I currently have:

120 Taming
120 Lore
100 Vet with 120 scroll (I don't use jewelry unless needed to get pets out of the stable)
100 Magery with 110 scroll (+10 Spellbook used)
100 Eval
100 Resist
80 Med

I would like to have my Magery and Eval at 110 without using addons, and use jewelry or a spellbook to boost a single skill, rather than multiple skills.

Thanks, Katrena

Lower vet to 90, use enhanced aids to rez.

Most of my tamers only have GM Mage an Eval because all I'm using it for is heals and cures when my pets are fighting things that do area damage. About the only other spells used is invis, gate, recall, and rez. If this was a pvp tamer, then I would go ahead with the higher skills, but for pvm, I would save the scrolls and use them on a pure Mage template.

I'm inclined to agree with Kellgory. Although it is nice to cast resurrection and gate travel more easily, a tamer is probably fine with only GM magery, because you won't need to repeatedly cast EVs. Higher eval int wouldn't hurt, though.

The highest my tamers have trained magery has been GM. One actually just runs with 85 heh. So I would probably leave your skills where they are. You could always eat the scroll and have a skill increase item to put on for hunts where you wanted better casting. But I've never found it necessary myself.

I have had the 110 Magery scroll of this character for years and never run into any Magery problems. My rational is that since there is no way to recover this 110 Magery scroll, and I happen to have a 110 Eval scroll, the two skills at 110 would be better than Magery at 110 and Eval at 100.

106-107 magery is never fail circle 7 spells. Gate travels, flamestrikes, mass dispels etc. So going to 110 magery is essential to my characters. You also get the better % to cast res, evs etc. Also healing is based on magery skill, so you heal more damage the higher your magery.

So yes going higher on magery is always a good thing, especially if you use your greater heal often during peerless or what not.

Eval Int is your damage for magery. Do you cast offensive magic often? Eval will make your flamestrikes, fireballs, e bolts etc hit harder. If you find that you usually sit back and heal the pet then you really don't need eval.

Mindblast, and poison are the only attacks based on magery, so without eval you are severly limited to spells you can cast for offense.

Also the 90 vet someone mentioned should work fine, the thing with me personally is I do not sit back and watch my pet attack hardly ever. I cast along with my pets and drop monsters quickly. So to me 90 vet is really just to res a pet or to get a quick heal in on it. For your more traditional tamer you would want higher vet so you can keep up with the damage your pet takes.

So try to figure out how you like to play best, or what you do frequently and take it from there. I don't think you can just say this is a tamer template this is how you run it. It's a template that depends on play style and how capable you are at running it.

I enjoy necro mage tamer and spellweaving mage tamer the best, having learned I do not need vet often and I cast alongside my pets.

If you are just looking for + skill items you need to imbue jewels, and then get items to free up points. Mark of the travesty for magery/eval or tame/lore would solve your problem quickly. Also a talismen that has +5 Taming +5 Lore. Etc Etc

At 110 Magery you'll have 100% success chance for 7th Circle spells such as Gate Travel, I typically train all my mages to at least 110 because of this.

I do
120 taming
120 lore
100 magery
120 music
120 peacing
100 vet

I don't add the eval because my pet is doing the damage (I only PVM)

I would save the high mage/eval scrolls for a pure mage as the others have stated.

Good luck!
