Internet Relay Chat

It's like an IM, but with more people. I hesitate to compare irc to 'chat rooms' though, simply because to some that label has an icky taste

The UO House of Commons dev chats are held in irc, and besides the UO channel there are channels for other MMO's as well.

In a nutshell, it's a cool place to hang out and talk 'live' with other players
