Invasion waves in Covetous

I haven't had a chance to test Cora's invasion in TC1,so when I went to see what damage I could do on Catskills just a bit ago,I was disappointed with how the mob "invades". I understand that, yeah, the npc Cora would gate in the spawn right on top of the pool instead of what I was hoping for. True invasion waves coming in through the 2nd level entrance. This reminds me how the Brit city invasion went. It would have been nice to have a team set up a choke point in this dungeon to see if the mobs could break through it and the players would have to fall back and regroup. Oh well...

You can set up a choke point. The waves gate into the dungeon in 3 or 4 places and head toward the void pool. If you set up right at the entrance to the void pool room, you can catch the waves coming from both directions. Myself and 2 other sampires have taken it to about wave 45 that way, who knows how far we could go if we had Mystic healers partied.

I play Pac and Atl, you don't have to, but at the higher end it is the logical choice, since the waves come from 2 directions in the dungeon.

The 1st day they seemed to be hanging back much but now they advance towards the pool as they should.

Waiting at the pool for them usually leads to bad results because one monster or mob will chase you away while the rest damage the pool. A couple of fighters with whirlwind and healers at each end seems to work quite well in the beginning as long as everyone holds their end successfully. Once you hit about wave 30 things start getting a hectic. Some monsters will fight and some will try to run straight for the pool. The monsters also get more difficult to kill and have a few tricks up their sleeves.

On Pac we managed up to wave 54 with 6 people all classes...3 tamers with gd tanked and healed the other meele chars...with aprox. 15 people you might be able to reach 100...you need to split in 3 groups were one is at the entrance to the pool healing and taking out passing mobs that break bariers...we always tell people to NOT run in panic into pool direction, better die in front of it and come inside pool area to rez and run back in....worka pretty well...

We have been having a GREAT time setting up choke points and teaching people "team defense" in Tram Cov Dungeon!

Where have you been? (yes, this is on Catskills!)

We got it to Level 67 on Tuesday night and 65 on Wednesday night.. Had 20 and 18 people on those respective runs....

The only thing that is holding us back is the HUGE amount of people that refuse to play any template other than tamer.

It actually is pretty embarrassing to see someone say "This is the only developed player I have" ... especially when they are asked how long they've played and the answer is ... "from the beginning...." :(

GOT TO GET MORE DIVERSIFIED PEOPLE!!!

There is a reason why the top scores, on our shard at least, are Necro/Mystics! The Area Effect spells are KILLER in those small choke fight areas!

Come on folks! Stop being dependent on those G-Dragons!

FYI I went to Covetous at 2:30 am local time. This was an hour and a half before server down and I went to fight the spawn solo. I think everyone else was off line. That's the only thing that sucks about playing very late.

I'll come and play on days that I am off of work. Other wise we would have to start a defense at 1:40 am central time. I don't know of too many that play that late.

You do recall back in the day when those tamers were the gods of UO before they put in the pet nerfs. Personally they way some new skills or combo of them are maybe those old nerfs need to be re addressed!!
I mean 2 EV's that today that can take 30 or more seconds to do the damage of one hit by some classes...

The difference is, summons and pets can actually hit stuff. When you get to about 30, melee becomes very difficult because you can hardly hit the monsters. The only ones keeping them off the void pool at high levels are tamers and mages. I was kinda pissed the 1st time i realized that because i had to come to the realization that this is something else that they created to screw over one of the hardest classes to be in the game which is melee fighter.

lol right
Huh nothing. We take all the damage while tamers and mages sit back and cast spells. Being able to hit something is everything to us. You take that away and all we are doing is sitting there taking damage. Pets and spells don't miss and their owners stay out of melee range just like Archers do. Even being a successful sampire isn't just a matter of having a few skills and waiting there to get some loot. Besides, not everyone has what it takes to be a sampire.

Taking on mobs of foes
Taking all the damage
Confidence gets interrupted
Waiting 5 seconds for a bandage
Missing over and over

Anyone who says it's easy on melee fighters obviously doesn't play one

Hmm, well I guess I'll give it to ya. Still don't understand the difficulty. I play primarily a mage, and it's kinda rough. There's two choices, play with protection which makes your casts take so long that in a tight battle they're useless cause they're too late (kinda offsets the "but we miss sometimes" warrior argument), or play without it, which means half your casts get interrupted (ooops, there goes that argument about mages hit 100% of the time, sorry...again) and that can cost ya some insurance :)

Just recently, I made a macer. 120'd macing, tacts, anat, heal, resist, gm chiv. Thought I'd never wanna play a dexxer :p But I'm loving him, can imbue my sticks up to be what I want in any given situation, and *drum roll* I play him old school. Don't carry focus, get that on the qstaff in stam leech, a bit of life leech, make it a slayer, add spell effects, whatever ya wanna do to it.

And ya know what? I'm fairly effective, it takes two buttons to play. The left mouse to attack, the F1 keye to heal with a bandie. Now I'm sure I could work a lot harder at it, but really, who wants to? It's a game to play to relax lol.

I can dig the tanking and all, but nowhere noway is it the hardest template to play.

Try doing some upper level stuff and tell us how easy it is. Maybe something that hits hard or multiple mobs at once.

I say its a difficult template to play because we have no other way of taking down a foe except toe to toe. Usually by the time a fighter is in trouble, it's too late. You get about 2 steps away from the mob and the killing blow is waiting there for you.

I play a mage as my secondary and i can do better against the waves than my fighter. I cast a couple of EVs, Mass Dispel when they are gone and repeat. Every now and then one slips through or comes after me i just invis or run/heal and wash rinse repeat. I can cast pretty fast with protection on but 1-2 hits means i am dead.

Imagine as a mage if for every 10 spells you cast only 1 hits (that's sucessfully cast), meanwhile you can stand no further than 1 tile from the enemy who is hitting you for 80 damage through your armor, unless you have multiple people healing you it's going to be anything but relaxing, you have to constantly duck back and heal, keep your finger on the "chug" button for when you're critically hit, unless you're a sampire pop orange petals and full refresh pots, watch both your mana and stam as if your stam drops below 80 you start taking MASSIVE damage and the enemy will pretty much hit you every time, and keep your mana up so you can properly chain specials.

If you're having an "easy" time on a melee dexxer compared to a mage you're not fighting anything remotely tough created ML or later.....trash mobs are easy no matter what template you play on. My dexxer probably has 2-3x the quick macro buttons my mage does because fast targeting and being able to quickly heal/regen stam is a HUGE issue.

I've also noticed that my imbuer with mysticism (basically cast rising colossus and hide, no effort required really) is more successful than my paladin archer in the void pool. However, after level 40, mobs start to move so fast that unless you can cast invisibility or hide, you are pretty much dead.

The void pool is really fun but I think this should also be added to the void pool menu: "When you are being chased by a good number of mobs, don't run and thus bring them directly to the void pool, run to the opposite direction!" :)

I have to admit, i was very guilty of that in the beginning. I dunno why your first instinct is to run to the pool when in trouble. You have to train yourself to sit there and take it or run towards the opposite end. Once the waves get into the 30s, running is pointless since they seem to move faster than paragons.

Amazing how many people try to hide behind their dragons at the void pool. Just finished a run on GL and had 3x the next highest points by using a Sampire. A tamer or two to help tank at the higher levels is good - but man a sampire with whirlwind kills. If you had 6 sampires - 2 at each spawn point - you can mow through the spawn fast. Tamers and their all kill...all kill... take forever.

Here you go...Sampire for the win... This is on Great Lakes/Trammel

Looking at the rewards and REALLY looking at them... while at first they had a serious cool factor.... taking into account the amount of times it takes to get them.... not sure it's worth it.

If you want one of the Artifacts doing the Pool for Points is a waste of time - better take 4-5 peeps and farm Cora for the same time and get your Arti WITHOUT the durability loss tag...

For the mule items the Pool is everything....

I just decided for me to farm other stuff and buy the Cora drop Artis later....

I haven't verified it yet, but I think you don't get the 10th anny items while invised. I know that probably doesn't matter by now, but just saying. :)

I run Lyc w/ proto/stone form the wholllllllle time...yeah. I don't know, I haven't tried a sampire yet on Ches. I definitely think the armor ignore on a RC works nicely. Mystics seem great.

My experience so far is just the opposite; it is challenging, quite fun especially when you're fighting with a group of players and it gives me a reason to visit an old dungeon that I haven't been for quite some time. Some of the rewards will be quite useful for my lumberjack, I will try to get the new composite bow too, but regardless of the rewards, this is a new experience.

They obviously put a lot of thought to this rather than putting a new mob that would rarely drop an artifact; like navrey, medusa, scalis etc. and I haven't heard anything about those mobs being repetitive or boring and these latter mobs are actually introduced with an expansion while the void pool came with a publish. I haven't even been to wrong yet since it is revamped for I'm still trying to catch up with the previously released content. On these boards, we do overreact sometimes or exaggerate an issue, with good faith, in order to keep the developers' attention constantly on the game. However, I really don't have anything negative to say and I really appreciate the effort they put into this publish.

I go there if i had a hard day at work and need some stupid hack & slash for a few waves...than later i try not to die at Level 3 farming for ARties to unravel and the "one in a tenthousand" possible good piece for imbuing...

If i ever get my 2000 points for the Hephaestus (i am roughly at 1000 yet) i will get it, try everything out with it i posted on another tread and move on doing Peerless or other stuff again...maybe Cora...but definatly will do more guild hunt...

My tamer has little use for "all kill". Just "guard me" once and start putting arrows in targets. So by the time you scurry to the new portal, we dropping the second to spawn. And not greedy for the same point on the rewards offered. The fish finder sounds fun. Now if there was a 1% chance getting a points arty that didn't have 24 hour timer/brittle.

And when did tram side energy fields start blocking pet movement? Or have I been hunting alone way to long?

OK no loot on the spawns. At least let us skin them for leather and scale.

You mean i am not allowed to play my stealther/mage anymore because i offend your playstyle?

Not sure if serious...

I drop 2 ev's, hide, stealth behind you Tanks and keep you emergency healed if neccessary which is mostly starting at wave +28 for the first time since you can handle the waves mostly ALONE until that Wave...

You must play a shard of single players....

I am highly respected on my shard for doing this....i am also the rez station btw...

Even when i am out with my PET, because i am tamer too on that char, i heal and rez all others.. :p

I was looking forward to the portable forge but it sounds like it's stuck once you place it. Thats not really portable...I think i rather use a fire beetle. Then i started thinking about the ore finder but i want to hear more information about that.

Does it point you to the closest valorite ore deposit, Does it change according to where you are or does it just give you some random coordinates on a random facet that you have to hunt down? The latter does not sound like my idea of fun.

Pets do miss. Their chance to hit an opponent has the same calculations as a players. Their Wrest vs their opponents Wrest/Wep skill determines their chance to hit. Pets also don't get HCI.
