Introducing the Order of the Draco (Lawful Evil) on Catskills

So since we have no real evil in our quiet little world, I've decided to dust off Blasphemy and recreate her. And with her an entirely new coven. Blasphemy was my murderer back in the day and she was perma red, so I am having to remake her. But she is also a half-breed. The first one of this kind on the shard.

So my fellow guildies and I came together, had a bit o' round table about this and what we've come up is an idea that hopefully inspires some to try the dark side a bit. Of course, this new group would be part of OvC (on the Chaos side of course) thus havoc would ensue.... all under our very safe-guarded ROE's.

My friend Adam (who plays Armand) and I love to write --- it shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that we're almost all some form of writers in CoD --- so we came up with this idea.

We built a framework --- a storyline --- and we created basic characters, with basic histories, and some stats to kind of set the stage for anyone that might be interested in such an endeavor. We created a family --- vampiric family of course --- that would rival the Romanus'; well most the Romanus'. And this family is ancient, some really old vampires, also from Earth --- headquartered out of London --- that seek to convince the Romanus' to their cause. Of course the Romanus' are good vampires, always righteous and walk the path of Order, so that may prove difficult.

At some point they might give up on the idea of persuading them and then just try to stomp them out taking over their territories, which include Paris and of course Umbra (in that little planet Sosaria). Oh lookie lookie... a whole new planet you say? Hmmm.

So we've pitched the idea to a few people who have selected characters that they associate with... I provide basic framework and back story and the player then organically steps into these shoes and takes it from there. Everything else is really up to you... but we give you the basics. A frame in which to hang your art.

Some of you messaged me with some questions.... I am posting the answers for everyone to see.

Q. What alignments are acceptable for the characters of the Order?
A. The Draconians are mostly Lawful Evil with some of them Chaotic Neutral and Chaotic Evil... they are vampires and half-vampires and would probably never accept anything other.

Q. Can I make an Elf that is part of the Draconian Order?
A. No they cannot be any other race but human, they are originating from Earth (London to be exact). There are no gargoyles or elves on Earth. That doesn't mean that after some time in the future they may accept elves, but I am pretty sure that all vampires of our lore (Ricean) would consider gargoyles too imperfect a being to be granted the Dark Gift. Gargoyles are our stone servants and watchers and a while back we wrote into the lore that they would be immune to the Dark Gift in the first place because they are created beings.

Q. Can I make my own character to be part of the Draconian Order, or do I have to chose a per-existing character?
A. Absolutely, if you can make a character that would fit into the overall theme of the guild and fit into the Ricean world please be our guest and do so!

Q. Is there a guild I can join? Are you warring anyone? Will you be PvP'ing?
A. Yes! The Order of the Draco (OotD) is the guild which I am GM of. We are highlighted under a common ROE with guilds that are part of or cooperate with the Order vs. Chaos RPvP Alliance. Yes, there will be PvP but under a common ROE.

Q. Is there a city for us to operate out of?
A. Yes! Winterhaven will be the city that the Draconians build here in Sosaria. It will be close to Luna.

Q. I'd love to join the theme, but I need some help with building a character since I am new to Catskills. What can you help us with in that area?
A. We can help with a basic training suit, some basic scrolls, some cash, and place to live.

Q. I already have a house on my account, so I cannot place one on Catskills. Is there a place I can "live" out of and train and so on?
A. OMG YES!!!! We have built "APARTMENTS" for you to live out of in Winterhaven. You would "lease" an apartment from the Order in character; OOC you will be added as co-owner so that you can decorate your apartment and set your containers to "Owner Only".

Should only allow them and the owner of the plot to access it. Co-own opens it to every co-owner

If you put the container in a house, YOU set it to OWNER ONLY ... you are the owner of the container, it lists you are the owner. No other co-owners can access those containers EXCEPT the actual house owner, so yes there has to be a bit of trust. BUT we've never let anyone down in 16 years of playing this game... so!

Nice! We've already rented some of the apartments out to visiting folks. Seems like Atlantic keeps having issues and not being available, so a lot of folks are coming from there to Catskills and now.... they have apartments here!!! YAY.

Not everyone wants their characters made for them. No offense, but the style of your guild isn't appealing to me. I like to play vampires whose history actually has been played in-game and not those who are hopped up ancients. Those who started as actual humans and played through the rp and weren't "instant" embraces. I prefer that even if my character is weak. The game hasn't existed for the age of your characters by UO based time. That self importance comes across as god-like and that is a major put-off for me not only in joining, but in a desire to even interact with your guild. I actually looked into your guild when I was looking for an rp guild. I respect your right to rp as you would like... but the control aspect, the god-like nature of your characters and the scripting is a reason this experienced player of vampires... has no desire to participate. I mention these not because I am attempting to bash your guild or rp style, but to give you insight as to why perhaps you are having to reach so far for your guild as to post on UO Hall. I am sure I'm not the only one who enjoys those things.

An' while I do not play her anymore, I have a vampire character on Catskills who started as a mortal and became a vampire through rp back in early 2000's. I remember the old ones... Daca, Crimson Alliance, VcV, Serena, Ceverin, etc. I only say this so I don't come across as someone who hasn't walked the walk.

^ ... you do not have to select a pre-made character. The pre-mades are for folks that might have an interest in a character.

Not everyone is looking to start off with a fresh character, some folks enjoy kinda stepping into a role. Our characters are based on the literary works of one author, Anne Rice. CoD was born in UO on January 1997 in BETA of the game, so we've been playing that way ever since. And no... we're not scripted just because we are based on a book series (or rather several of hers as we have the Mayfair Witches and the Wolf Gift lores worked in with the Vampire Chronicles). We extend the story of those characters past the point of the last book, in many cases re-experiencing the characters in some different way.

As for the age thing, we're just following our lore... Akasha and Enkil are over 6,000 years old --- they are our divine parents. We come from Earth, as did Lord British. So that's perfectly explainable in that sense.

While our RP is different, its not better or worse than anyone else's. I respect everyone else's RP and we have had a few folks that like the theme and the idea of taking over a character or creating a new character around Ricean lore. If its not your thing, its not your thing... but that doesn't make us less "suitable" to RP our way and it doesn't mean we don't get questions about the theme and interest in it.

Many of the characters listed did not originate from Sosaria, but rather from Earth. Portals exist between the two worlds, which allow for others to enter or exit.

While I respect your right to post your thoughts on something in a thread, your post did come off as bashing in nature. And this was being posted in many different threads in an effort to bring more and more people into it. Not everyone checks Catskills or other various threads.

Got to agree with Pandora. In general I've played my own characters in whatever form my RP has taken, be in in UO or my friends own pen and paper system. But I have played pre created characters before, who I had no real attachment to for special games and scenarios. The best of which was a werewolf during WW2, Logan Marston, he was very cool but was killed in action near the end of the scenario. I've since had a legacy of characters from that family throughout the generations, cultivating in my current character in that game system who I've played for nearly 3 years. Recently he screwed up the timeline trying to save the original character (His granddad) which resulted in an allied defeat in WW2... but thankfully that was sorted out eventually! Never mess with time travel in RP games!

Anyway, I'm getting off topic. So my point was meant to be, just because a character is pre-made, doesn't mean you can't add your own take to them, expand them, grow them, have fun with them.

I'd like to add a bit of information (advice maybe?)
For reasons I won't get into, playing vamps has never been my thing. However, back when I played, that didn't stop me from playing against the various vampire groups.

Of the many (many many) unnatural groups I've played against, CoD (and by association, OOD (I'd expect a group of mind-flayers to have that guild title... but that's off topic ), whom I'd never interacted with (sorry, still quit)) is one of the most flexible for other play styles. So if you don't like the ideas behind either CoD or OotD, feel free to get in touch with Pandora or Bianca or any of the others, make (or join) another faction in their scenario, and play "against" them. They have always invited more ideas and are willing to entertain the entertaining plans.

In that way, the United Pirates of Catskills had plenty of interaction with CoD (and RBGu, who are still in play as far as I know), causing untold amounts of chaos in the process and rarely having out of character problems with the way they (or we, I've heard that we could be a bit abrasive) chose to conduct ourselves in character.

The bottom line is this... we created this RP theme, we run it, we spent the money on it (opening 8 new accounts for it), we wrote most of it basing it on existing lore, we will do whatever we want. You may like it, you may not. That's your option as a free citizen, but is there a need to come on this thread to simply state how much you dislike us as a group? That's purposely sabotaging another player's (or players') method of enjoying their game especially when we don't even know you. It is a personal attack on us as a group and that's uncalled for.

As for this theme. I've gotten a ton of feedback and questions about it, we've gotten quite a bit of folks to join the theme --- both utilizing these characters we pre-made AND creating entirely new characters --- and even folks who say, "Hey vampires isn't my thing, but I really love the idea and how you guys have set it up!" So we must be doing some things right. The fact is we absolutely (and Aneirin can vouch for us on this) love "CONFLICT RP"... and we wanted to create our own special way of stirring that pot in a manner that retains that honor code (ROE's) we old schoolers are used to.
