The place to begin your path as a Scribe is in New Haven at the Mage shop. There you can do the Inscription Quest and receive your gains a bit faster. Once you have hit 50 in your skill you will be rewarded with an Undead Slayer Spellbook.

You will need blank scrolls, a scribes pen, reagents, and most importantly you will need to already have the spell you wish to scribe in a spell book in your pack or hand.

Double click the Scribes Pen and pick the circle you wish to begin inscribing. By clicking the tab to the right of the spell it will tell you the regs needed to make the spell scroll and will also tell you your odds of making the scroll. You can sell the finished spell scrolls back to the Mages at the shop to keep you in gold to purchase your supplies.

The following guide will give you an idea of what you can inscribe at the level you are currently at.

Don't dismiss using the inscribe skill to just copy a book from a full one to a blank one. Using the blue gem next to the skill you target a written book, then the blank to copy it. Blank books can be purchased from Scribes or from Provisioner's. Using the skill of inscription and not a scribes pen you can get steady gains up to about 50 without purchasing scrolls, regs, and pens.

Once you reach 50 you can begin to make blank spellbooks. Although your odds will be low at first to actually succeed. Keep in mind you will burn through a lot of scrolls making spellbooks but if your magery is high there is a chance you will make a slayer, super slayer, or a spellbook with good mods.

* Don't litter Sosaria!...unwanted spellbooks can be donated at the Library in Britain. You will have to do the library quest to donate and it will take tons of books turned in to get a nice reward, but if your making them anyway why not take advantage of it.

Farming Supplies.

As you purchase supplies of reagents, and scrolls the NPC's will restock at double the amount the next time they offer them, ( ie, 20, 40, 80, 160, all the way up to the max of 999). The time between NPC's restocking can vary from almost immediately to around 20 minutes.

Blank scrolls can be purchased from Mage Shops, Scribes, Map makers, and Architects.
Reagents can be purchased from Mage Shops, and Alchemists. Limited reagents can be purchased from various other NPC's, for example Provisioner's can have ginseng.
Also scout about in Felucca as Faction Reagent Vendors will also have supplies of Regs at negative tax at times. The price will be less than the norm during these times and you can save a bit as you stock up on needed supplies. The prices at the Mage Shops will reflect the tax of the Faction during these times also, so regs and scrolls there can be less also.

To purchase large amounts of items at one time, hold the shift key down and then left double click the item you wish to purchase on the NPC menu. You will then buy all the quantity they have for sale.

If you cannot hold that amount of said item they will fall to the ground at your feet. It never hurts to lead your packy about or take your beetle with you when you are out farming supplies. When your purchase is at 2000 gold or more the NPC's will take the amount directly from your bank, so there is no need to drag large amounts of gold about once you have the supplies run up a bit.

Marking Runes

Blank runes can be purchased from the Mages at the Mage Shops.
Again check Felucca where at times runes can be purchased for less. It can save you a bit if you are marking large quantities.

Mark is a 6th circle spell that when used will mark a rune for the exact spot you are standing on.

To change the name displayed on a rune, once marked, you double click the rune and it will prompt you to enter a name for your rune. Type in the name you wish to give it...then hit enter. Keep in mind runes once marked can be renamed at any time. *The only exception to this is when a rune is marked in a home. It will take the name of the house it is marked in and can not be re-named unless remarked. This is handy for those with a vendor house. They can name their house with what they wish the runes to say, mark the runes, then drop them on busy spots to advertize their wares with no fear the runes will be re-named.

Once you have marked your rune you can then place it in a Rune book by simply dropping it on top the book of your choice. It will then go inside the book. To retrieve it from the book you open the book to the page of the rune you wish and click the arrow that is marked drop rune. The rune will come out of the book and drop into your back pack.

Rune Books

To make a Rune Book the scribe needs a Scribes pen, 8 blank scrolls, one gate scroll, one recall scroll, and a blank rune.
Using your Scribes pen click on Other and then choose Rune Book.

To name your book open it and at the top click the name book gem.
You will be prompted to enter a name...once you type what you want your book to be titled..click enter. If you make an error you can rename it at any time.

To charge a Rune book with recalls you simply drop the recall scrolls on top the book. The allotted number needed will go into the book to charge it. You cannot retrieve the recall scrolls once dropped in the book.

*Tip
If you are a Rune Book maker and making a lot of the same books at one time you can find entering names of the books a bit tedious.
By holding the control key and hitting the q key you will repeat the last thing you typed.
You can click Name book, hold control then hit q, bringing up the last thing you typed, hit enter, then go on to the next book and repeat.
