In my opinion, if you are going to do the treasure map, you should kill the monsters NOT drag them away and hide so you can go back to digging in the chest.

I guess it depends where it is, If its near peoples homes then its bloody rude! Out in the open... Hmm, I'd say I might use that tactic if I wasn't doing so well at killing them.

option 4.

Lead monsters into public homes, stealth out, close doors.

I'd say location dependent and whether you go back and clean your mess up.

If you are near houses and don't go back to kill the monsters, very rude.

If you are in the open and don't go back to kill the monsters, hmm... if a tree falls in the woods does it make a sound?

I haven't done a map in years(5+) but back then, I used a provo hunter and kept my mess clean:thumbsup: Monsters might be harder now.

I don't see a problem with it. Granted I wouldn't do it if there were some poor sap mining 1 screen away. But if a monster is out roaming the woods near someone's house who's not home, it's not hurting anyone. There's always a little risk in life, people need to just deal with it.

I can't count the number of times someone has tamed a dragon in destard, brought it outside and released it for some reason. Not a pleasant surprise to log in to. Do I complain about it? No, hazards of living near a dragon cave. Same thing with living near T-Map spots.

This is an example of what is wrong with games and the world in general.

In your view...
I always enjoy a big spawn near my house! Good ol fun. I only wish I could have a house in buccs tunnels.. when ppl dig maps there, the tunnels get loaded with stuff making it one of the hardest "spawns" around. At least they used to drop down there, been a while since I visited them

If the person intends to come back and kill the spawn on a different character, I see no problem with it. Similarly, if someone tries a level 6 and just gets blown away, and CAN'T kill the spawn at all, I can understand - and if they are in an alliance they should yell for someone to kill the spawn, so they can get back their corpse. THB is in a large PvM-only alliance on Lake Austin for the express purpose of being able to call for backup if things go to hell.

But, if they are going to just dump the spawn, and never kill it, well, let's just say that it's in the bylaws of my THB shard chapter that it isn't allowed, and as GM of the chapter, if I catch a member in the act of doing it on an island with substantial housing (Dragon, Blanche, Ocarina, or Horseshoe), certain bad things will happen to them just prior to their being booted from the guild.

Fire, Skull, Eiffel, Bald, Valor & Amoeba are bad enough, as are the 3 city-islands with maps, but one goes into those expecting trouble (all but Eiffel & Bucs have giant serpent infestations). Iver's Rounding and Dot have their own size issues (and Iver's a server line, as well), and Temple island has a guard zone where it should never be an issue (and is more an issue of KEEPING your spawn from being whacked). But, the other 4 are residential islands with no natural spawn (and no healers!), and 3 of the 4 are of substantial size as to where being too confined will not be an issue. Blanche is a special case in that it's a 1-house island with a single map. The only way to dump the spawn there is in/around the house, so It's just being petty to leave it there for the house owner's detriment.

Now, if level 6s could occur for Fel, I could see ENCOURAGING spawn dumping on those 4 housing islands as a PvP strategy, but level 6s are a Trammel issue, and as such, should be treated like any other form of luring.

Even if there is no homes around...nothing more fun then recalling with your not so developed newbie T Map hunter to do that lvl 1 T map and ending up lunch for some AWs that a GM Thunter most likly Tamer left there because he is too lazy to get some help or spend the time killing the spawn.

I like to treat people the way i expect to be treated, and beeing Blaron breakfast is not my favorite treatment...

You spawn it, You kill it.

It's simple really, when ya think about it...
Run away and circle back around, pick em off one at a time, that's good tactics. But kill em before you quit the area.

Common sense *does* have a place in UO, ya know ;)

"LAME" should have been one of the options. I don't think it's rude necessarily, and it's obviously a viable tactic or nobody would do it... but I think if you're that big of a wuss that maybe you should find something more character-appropriate to do with your time SO my answer is that it's LAME.

I was posting this to get a feel of what everybody thought before I commented on it myself. I was chatting with another player, who collects Ilsh Arties and such, and he has a treasurehunter (as I do) so we were talking about doing Ingenious Maps.

He was like, "Ah, its easy. I just hide, lead away the spawn to the edges of the island and recall back in and take the backpack and the gold, then just move on to the next."

It did strike me as a bit inconsiderate. I go back to the old school of Treasurehunters, where there was an etiquette. #1 you destroy the chest when you are done with it and #2 you kill off all your spawn before going home.

Times change, I guess.

A trasure chest at ANY level should be UNABLE to be looted while chest guardians (spawned creatures) are still alive. Also the creatures should teleport or run back to the chest if they are led far enough away from it.

I've never come across abandoned chest guardians, even on days where I've done a lot of maps. I can see how it would ruin someone's fun but then, if someone's idea of fun depends on total predictability, I would venture to say they're not having much fun at all.

I once had four ancient wyrms spawn on a chest, that was interesting. It was difficult but I managed to kill them all eventually and took a screenshot for posterity. I don't really see where the problem is in killing the guardians or why anyone has to abandon them. If you can't solo maps, take a friend or pet with you.

run the critter away and come back.

and how is this different from any other person in a farming area taking something bad and taking it a couple screens away and parking it there so they can farm somthing easier?

yamadan spawn where the 2 rune beetles are.
take the yamadan away and farm the easy to kill rune beetles till the cows come home (as an example)

i dont think your taking about etiquette so much as your trying to force a opinion of game play onto people.

personally, i dig up, pull all the baddies a screen away into one area.
then when im done i come back with my pure bard and get them all to kill each other.

so am i a bad fella if some poor unattended recall lumberjack recalls into the middle of that pack of hell spawn while im still looting the chest?

lets talk etiquette.
lets see what happens at the Nera the night eyes spider (or whatever her name is) when the pub goes live with the scroll changes.

it will be the same as the etiquette from that 3rd key robe dude that everyone has been farming this last week.

i personally dont think there is any etiquette in online game play.
lets be realistic.
its not like elevator etiquette where you shouldnt fart in a elevator and leave it in there for the next poor soul.

YA KELMO, I KNOW THAT WAS YOU!

Option #1. Isn't the point of treasure maps getting the treasure and not dying horrible death?

I have come across abandoned chest guardians before... doesnt really bother me as i can clean it up pretty quickly.

Why dont they make a change so that the guardians can now travel past a max amount of tiles from the chest, and if they do, they bounce back, much like it is when they do the invasions of the cities, try take a monster out of the city area and it bounces back like the ophidian beserkers did.

Now that would make it more interesting :p

I solo ingenious maps, usually do it without getting killed, but when i do get killed it happens more then ones :p

The amount of crap loot within the chest should be reduced.. thats the most frustrating part.

I used to live on Horseshoe Island LONG time ago. I hated logging in to find a Lich Lord or Demon in my house. Loging in to a grey Screen was *NOT* a good start to the evening.

I used to do the Ingenious maps alot when they first came out, had to of done over 150 of them, I lured every single time ( my bard skills were low)
I think some people find it interesting to come across some ancient worms In the middle of the woods, and they try to kill it. I mean I see how it can be rude, But it depends on who finds it.

Person A: Oh cool a ancient wyrm or three, Im going to kill them because im bored out my mind, and would enjoy the challenge.

Person B: Oh F$*$ an ancient wyrm what son of a Bi$$* left this here,
This ruined my day *logs out*

Person C: Oh look an ancient wyrm, *continues running on by*

Person D: (A Miner).. Oh look a... OWWW IM BEING EATING ALIVE, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME, RUN AWAY BEETLE!!! SAVE YOURSELF.
