Ingame mail system

Greetings all.
No doubt suggested before and I'm sure there's a thousand things you'll find flawed with this suggestion but how about adding an ingame mail system, internal and cross shard.

So you go into town and buy your mail box to place in your house. Each mail box will give you your own personal mailbox number so you don't get junk sent to you.

For your own shard everything will be able to be sent via the mail system for a fixed price.
For cross shard there would need be restrictions on what can be sent and it probably wouldn't work with SP.

Examples.
Trading a BOD. Player on shard A wants to buy a BOD from player on shard B. Player on shard B puts said BOD in the mail box and pays 100gp to send the BOD and types in the price he wants for the bod. Player on shard A receives the BOD and pays the price asked for + 10% which is taken by the mail system.

You start a character on shard C and want to give them a head start. Send the new character 500,000gp by the mail system. Pay the 100gp to send the gold and also 10% of the sent gold is taken by the mail system.


This would probably benefit those on a less populated shard with trading.

Arrrr, much as me would like such a thing, me doesn't see it happ'nin' due to bugs causin' lost items that won't be replaced and the likelihood that some cheatin' characters will find a way ta dupe usin' it!

Back in '01 or '02 there was a mail system. It was in for about six months and then it was removed. I think it broke something, major.

There was a cool little mailbag icon on the paperdoll for it till said icon was replaced by the virtue gump button, too.

I would like a mail system for other purposes than trades, i.e.:
Message a guild member, who is not online at the same time as others.
Contact the owner of a house (maybe for a vendor spot or making a offer). Bulletin boards do not work out well, since they must be there and seem not to work for guests, if the house is set to private.
Suche a mail system should not be based on the character, but on the account, to avoid missing the mail if not logging on certain characters for a longer time.

It wont happen their will be another 100 bugs, glitches, and dupes with it.....

Not even worth trying to much other stuff to worry about such as Advertising the dam game...

Character names are not unique, only account names are, so unless you're willing to give anyone your account name - no way to put a proper address there.
Send to Merlin of Pacific Shard? Wonder how many of those are there.

That's a fascinating idea. Wish it would work..... but I can see there would be all sorts of trouble with that.... what about folk without a house? Would it work through the bank? And the likelihood of items being "lost" and all.... scares me.... Bulletin boards work fine for giving messages to friends offline "if" your friend has a public house and "if" your friend actually READS their board more than once in a purple moon..... icq or email seem to work far better.... And others are right since 90% of the character names are not Unique I have doubts that it would work properly....

Even my name Malag-aste is not "unique" as I myself have about 2 or 3 on my own shard as well as at least one on every other shard ..... So that would make things somewhat difficult....

RP wise we had a "mail" system and it worked rather well with folk being given a "mailbox" at a local "post office" was actually pretty neat concept and worked rather well... Others had "mailboxes" for their mail at their homes... the "postmaster" was freinded there and would drop mail in the mailbox.... was kinda neat... but only worked for the community that used it... otherwise the "postmaster" had to go and physically find the person ingame.... which sometimes proved difficult.
