Info On Factions?

Can anyone give me some basic info on Factions? Is it just a souped up guild or what? I know theres a sign up post in Fel but can anyone sign up? How do they generally operate? Considering the possibility of joining one but not sure if it would be a good idea. Can someone give me a few postives/negatives so I can get an idea? Also, would this be a good way to start off as a new PVP'er?

Anyone can join factions. If you decide to quit a faction though you will select the option to quit on the faction stone and it will take 7 days before it is effective - just something to consider before you jump into a side. The quality of play depends on the shard - some shards are ran by one small guild because no one else plays. Atlantic is preparing to launch a large faction battle as soon as the next Publish comes out (hopefully this month).

The more newbs the other guilds bring into factions the better Maybe one of the other factions will actually be able to take over a town lol... bet you can guess whyat guild im in. =)
