In Memory of Maling Kytiao

Maling's daughter came on UO yesterday and told us that her mother
had died. Maling made many friends on Atlantic over the years and
some have been writing about her in a book at the Book Store. Her
close friend, Julia, asked me to post some of these memories of Maling
on Stratics.

These are words of pain. Through these memories comes an awareness
of a woman who touched many of us. In ways we did not understand
at the time, Maling became part of our real life and her passing is a
real loss.

I’m sorry to say that I discovered a rogue book laying around someplace, the other day… and started asking around. It's hard to believe yet another someone I knew over the years could possibly be gone so soon. It's true I didn’t know her as well as I knew Karken… often times I just saw her hanging around the Del bank and talked to her in passing. I remember she moved her shop from the quiet area of Malas to north of Luna city… and it vanished one day. This had to be a couple years ago… then amazingly, back to where it was originally. And yet, it was all tricked out for Christmas. So, this book couldn’t be true. Yet, it seems it was. So soon after Kraken. 2 in 1 month.

My best to everyone that considered her their friend… her family, if they may be reading this post. I have no idea what happened… but I’m so sorry for this sudden bad turn. I know all too well how much it hurts mind and soul, but whatever happened… her pain is gone. I’ll miss her and her shop as it's been a place I’ve visited for more years then I’d care to admit… not that I will forget.

I never knew Maling in real life but felt like I did. Julia wrote a beautiful note about Maling (at The Book Store) that hit home for all of us who knew her in UO. Maling made friends and strangers alike feel like they were special to her. When she saw me shopping at Northern Star she would ask what I needed and then give it to me instead of making me buy it off the vendor which I would have gladly done. Her warmth and careing attitude made all our lives a bit brighter. I will miss you greatly Maling. Both worlds are a bit dimmer without our falling star.

I happened to pass through Atlantic and saw what was written on her bulletin board When ever I was on Atlantic I would try to stop by her house to say hi.. very sad news indeed. Blessings to her family and may her soul rest peacefully.

My God, I have just came back to UO after being in Aion for over a year. I used to do nothing but IDOCs. Maling and I would trade out stuff or just give each other IDOC items that I knew I couldn't use but that she could sell and vice versa. Sometimes I'd just drop off bags and bags of stuff after IDOCs since I only collect certain items and she had so many vendors and customers. We traded runes to IDOC locations and shared in the fun of the treasure hunt so many times I can't count them.

She was the most sincere person I had the chance to meet ingame and she definitely had her priorities between life and game straight. I know she liked to garden, as do I and we'd talk about that, the weather, just whatever... all the time waiting for something to drop.
