I'm assuming you are probably more interested than most in things that affected Siege, so here goes:

Stygian Abyss expansion. (Huge. You need to catch up on this if you left before it happened.)
High Seas booster.
Leveling of Magincia and player housing in Magincia (ho hum on most shards, big deal on Siege)
All accounts can have 2nd house on Siege or Mugen, or house on prodo shard if already have house on Siege or Mugen.
Lots of armor changes and weapon special move changes last year.
Faction artifacts rendered impractical for most and devs are promising a replacement ("Virtue vs. Vice")...soon?...for factions.

Also see this thread from last week started by someone else who's been gone about as long as you have: http://stratics.com/community/threads/so-whats-up-with-uo.309535/.

I think that's under 500 words but I didn't count.

So are you seriously contemplating coming back or are you just teasing us? LOL

Not sure at this moment. Has there been any elimination of shards or are the old ones still around? Has the population of the shards diminished much (yes, especially Siege)?

Over these past years, I've yet to find another game that allows me to steal from other players like UO...I do miss that. It appears I may have some extra time on my hands in the near future so why not come back? *shrugs*

I guess the only thing that might prevent me from reactivating is figuring out if I still know my user name and password for my account(s). I can't see me starting all new characters to attempt a comeback with...la

Pertinent to you would be the fact that everyone can now have 1 house on Siege and 1 on a regular server on the same account.

While I have always encouraged ideas for growth in Siege...I always disliked this type of resolution. Many people will merely place a house on Siege just to say they own one there...that takes away from the ability of full-time Siegers to have access to the best housing.

That being said...it's too late now, so I hope it's working on building the Siege population.

In the last few years has there ever been a developer provided statistic on the number of players on the shards?...la

Nothing changed much in four years in one aspect. UO still sucks less then all the other games out there.

Have a house on SP.

Past player with a character with gold to buy a house. If SP has gotten better then they remember then they may hang out there more.
New character made and grinds up skill and earns gold enough to buy a house. Either the playstyle there during the saving up gold will hook them and they play there with one character vs the other shard 7 spread templates. Or the SP playstyle and population never keeps them long enough to get enough gold for a house.

New player buys the gold from some site and places a house. Does SP really want a population growth with that mindset? If they are from my shard with this playstyle and drift off to SP or another shard, WOOT/WOOT.

For me I have three characters on SP. Every few years something on the trammy shards would annoy me and I would create a character. 3 times spread out over 8 years. Each time in less then an hour killed and dry looted. 2 steps forward, 3 steps back. And again those that think Tram ruined UO have no leg to stand on.

I never understood why players have such a problem with this happening to them (at least enough of a problem to quit Siege over it). Most players that play UO are not newbies. They understand how the banking system works, they understand about Fel or the Siege ruleset work.

If you hang around farming for gold or items...figure out what you are comfortable losing. If it's nothing, than stay close to the guard zones and bank regularly. I do understand that it can be upsetting when you lose something you really want, but at the same time some folks have to realize that those items can be gotten again. Learn where to play solo, and where not to. Learn how to make friends so you can group adventure and learn how to protect the items you want to hold onto.

Dry looting has been something that has happened since the beginning of the game. I used to laugh when I would get guard wacked or died close to the bank and the vultures would sweep in and take everything...even if it was just some bone armor. Why would they want it? Whatever their reason...if it was something I "had" to have...I would find a way to get another to replace it...la

When your just starting out on a second trip out the east side of Brit collecting leather. And some decked out geek kills you and dry loots he cloths off your back. Rinse repete three years later and nothing changes. I liked to be spanked just as much as the next person. Sneaking up with a 4ft bamboo cane and giving someone a wack kinda takes the fun out of it. At least PVP on a tram shard you can walk away knowing extra game time is not used up regearing up. And if you get a spank gank machine by bamboo canes with a 3rd party metal rod shoved down the center there is no loss. Most likely gain more names on the chat ignore list.

Sure, but there's a big difference between now and back then. These days you spend millions of gold on your über suit or farm countless hours for some artifacts. Back then there were no item properties and plain exceptional crafted armor was common. Way easier to replace...

not sure if anyone stated it but you can now have a house on siege and a house on a prod shard.

You do not need artifacts or uber suits to play UO. GM level stuff, works just fine, I never have trouble killing anything with my easily replaceable gear, if I get killed by a murderer. You don't need artifacts on Siege.

Of course you don't need them. Nevertheless, once you get used to some better gear, it's harder to go back to plain gear. I know that from personal experience. I have one char who has a better middle-class suit, not high end, so it could be better, but still quite good. The rest of my chars has suits more in between lower class and middle class. Always I play one of these chars with not so good suits, I wish these would be a tad better. Once in a while I loot a nice arti and I can upgrade one of the suits.

What do you do on siege, should you loot a really good artifacts? Put it in the bank, let it collect dust and continue playing with your GM stuff?

I think I'll be happier on an ordinary shard ;)
