Greetings,
I just started my account back up after 9 years of not playing. I was poking around for a bit on the Pacific shard and it seems like there are not many people on as their used to be. I also noticed that it is very laggy on the classic version, is this normal? I might not have noticed it as much before because Internet connections were bad back then. I always remember getting booted and coming back to the gray screen of death. I was wondering if anyone knew any good threads too kinda catch me up a bit?

If you haven't played in 9 years I'd suggest that you use the Enhanced Client and consider supplementing that with Pinco's UI. It runs much smoother on most modern computers than the old CC and uses much of the same graphics.

After that I'd suggest you take a look at the Player Wiki over on UO.com and look at the armor and weapons since that has changed quite significantly over the years. You will want to familiarize yourself with special moves and weapon bonus's as well as the armor bonus's.

You will also want to consider what skills you want since a great number have been added in the last 9 years. If you were into magery Mysticism is really handy and a Mystic Mage with Spellweaving is pretty nice in PvM....

If you are into PvP there are a number of options and you might want to check the forums for current templates as well as armor and weapon builds.

If you are in to Role-play there are any number of shards and groups that would be happy to get you up to speed on what's happened to Sosaria over the years of your absence. If interested you could check out UORPC.net and find quite a lot of the history there.

Go to uoguide.com and search for publishes 2006 and start reading. It'll touch on the highlights and will give you the subsequent published and expansions.

Thank you for the tips. I will also work on loading the enhanced client.

As far as the skill sets I have a Mage Tamer and a Swordsman, both are GM. Is that still a good platform? The Mage Tamer was my powerhouse and I used to run the dungeons with him.

Bigbry welcome back sugar....
As for the 9 years away you been gone a long time and as you would surmise yes alot has changed and we have grown populations have shifted but you will find most shards do have better then a handfull of players. Pac has a nice group of them on most mornings.
UOGuide is an excelent choice for catching upand if you go to the stratics game pages you will find tons to explore in the knowlage base. This is also true to the uo.com web page. Our Dark Lady has set up a game web page filled with the content of the new publish and there is always Petra's Web pages that are chock full of good info. Grab a drink of your choice and may i suguest you read a bit then come in game and explore.....

A tamer will want a greater dragon, so need at least 110 to control that beast - 115 better and 120 taming and lore if you want to tame them yourself

Welcome back! As far as the CC being laggy it may be your system or a bad load, I run the CC and have ZERO lag but 16ms ping does help a lot. Try both clients and pick the one that you like best and remember don't listen to all the BS CC/EC stuff as long as you play UO it doesn't matter which client you use. On the West Coast Pac is probably the most populated but feel free to check out the other West Coast shards.

Welcome home.

I moved to Pac from Napa and am happy with my decision to change home shard. Pac is pretty active at various times - prime for people on the West Coast, Hawaii and Alaska. Even some people from Guam, Australia and New Zealand play on Pac so there are people at different times.

Check over your rig. If you are using an older computer (similar to specs from 9 years ago), yes, you will lag and have issues even with the CC. If you are running a modern rig, try checking what else is running in the background. The CC might seem like a 'simple' client, but it still does use resources and differently than it did 9 years ago.

If you want to attempt the EC and you are lagging with the CC, you will have more lag. My rig is an Alienware i7 running Windows 10 with 8gb ram. I check my stuff a lot - I can run both clients at the same time if I really wanted to, but my rig starts to get a bit hot. CC runs with absolutely no issues and I tend to have ICQ, Vent and _maybe_ streaming software all running.
