Hey ... I haven't been around for nigh-on five years. And I still remembered my login.
I don't recognise anybody so far, but the five-year old PMs in my inbox are a blast from the past heh.

I've been looking about and it seems like there's a lot of quite cool new things which I might like to come back to UO for, but I'm concerned about one thing. Which is coming back and all the servers being dead as a n00b on the Stratics IRC server whose caps lock is stuck to "on".

I know that the population has been in decline since I left, but is there still a vibrant community here? Will I be able to find active guilds that run events several times a week? Are community events dead, or is it just that everyone's too lazy to update the Stratics event calendar?
And is all the new stuff actually worth getting back in the fray?

Lend me your wisdom, guys. Tell me honestly what UO is like these days.


[EDIT] Since people want to know, I don't play any specific shard yet, I have not started a new account (still deciding whether or not to) ... but I would be most likely to either Europa or Drachenfels due to timezone. My play-style is not PvP orientated, though I do like to PvP with guilds and such, and definitely want group-orientated PvM and events.

Hard to say depends your playstyle.
If you look for it you will find your niche, but nothing in abundance.

Some shards are pretty low in population so you may want to stay away from them. Atl, Chessy, GL and a couple others have a good sized pop. There will be plenty of people to hang with.

As for the game, it has changed dramatically, and some say for the worst, but for $13 a month it is still an incredible entertainment value IMO.

If you join the Napa shard, PM me and I'll do whatever I can to help you out.

. If I come back, I'm moving to a shard which will suit my British timezone a little better, since I'm too old to pull those all-nighters which being on Sonoma shard required. Though I was in PAS back then, it was good fun in retrospect.

LS has a community meeting every Monday evening at 7:30 central time during which the upcoming week's events are all announced. Something goes on most every night.

But since you're in the UK, you might want to ask around in the forum for Europa. That would certainly suit your time zone best.
