If you were to xfer one char to another shard, what would it be?

If you were to build ONE character and transfer it to another shard what kind of character would you build?

This character would need the ability to be the “starter” for the shard to be able to gather resources/items/scrolls/gold as well as potentially fight off or survive PVP attacks if found in Fel.

I have found different types of characters are good for different things. My 3 main ones I’ve used to kill bosses or do spawns are a tamer, a sampire, or a mystmage.

Lately I haven’t used the tamer at all, the mystmage and sampire are better equipped to handle the things I do. But the things they excel at are different.

The sampire is great for tackling big bosses, spawns, and things of that nature. It is very item dependent however so I would need to transfer over with a full cache of various slayer weapons. These weapons take a lot of time, planning, and resources. And some things I only have one so I would be reluctant to crosshard it (such as Conjurer’s Trinket) as I need it on my more permanent shard.

The Mystmage is flexible and can do some (but not all) of what the sampire does, but has the bonus of being able to do things that would destroy the sampire’s weapons or armor through acid or what have you. It would also be relatively easy to equip one as I wouldn’t have to make multiple weapons. Even though I like dexers a little more I think one Mage per shard is needed and very handy/flexible.

So if you were to transfer one character to another shard, what would it be?

think just doing a standard ABC archer would be the easiest and most cost effective to do multiple of them for a few shards. Should be able to collect resources.. do EM events.. and maybe get one or two shots off before certain death in pvp.

Necromage, solo champ spawns, value to local guilds who will want to recruit you.

Honestly it would depend on why I was going and where. A miner/smith could make enough gold to establish a base and make way for building up a character base. Same could be said of a Inscriptionist/cartog. Both make gold quickly and build up a base fast. But the true question has yet to be answered. Why?

Comes down to space. Stepping into the wayback machine and living off a boat because having no house sucks.

I'f and when I desired to slum it on another shard. I just start a new character on that shard. After few hours I get my fill of "been there, done that"

If forced to start a move to another shard and they stopped (smart ideal) the Xsharding of gold. I would take my Disco Tamer with his three packs and an extra set of slayer flutes. Template only uses aids and ash with armor rarely ever needing repair. And if needing to solo creatures to get items to sell. Well, IMHO is just sucking the fun out of playing the game.

I could never move and use just one character. Been there done that stunk and I missed my home.

GL's is my home. I have no desire to go anywhere else.

I would like to take my main character from Atlantic today to Atlantic before circa April 27, 2000. Sorry I did the Felucca "Tour of Avalon and Dawn" on Baja last and and am feeling nostalgic today.

of late ive found that instead of moving a toon, ill make a garg mystic/necro/mage

good at spawns and really fast to make.

can usually get a LRC suit cheap or for free at luna.
go do the haven quest for necro/SS/magic and ei (med and focus too)

work up necor and SS.
goes fast.

then go into lick with a wisp and work up magic and ei.
goes fast with the mana boosts.

then work up myst if ya want it for the RCs and such.

with that like mentioned above you can pretty much solo a spawn or drop in with a guild and roll with them.
once youve done a couple spawns you can usually get the scrolls ya need for nothing or on the ground to boost ya up.

then go and start tricking out the suit.
garg suits are by far the easiest to make and add stuff too cause their resists are so bloody high from scratch.

ive done that a couple times now.

but that is way off from your original question.

what should a fella move?
an imbuer/mule

all skills you can work up fairlly fast.
but the hardest to do is a good high end mule.
and once you have that mule you can make suits for all your other guys, no?

if i had to move a toon to another shard so that i could be set up there eventually id move a imbuer/mule for sure.

now if your talking move there so you can instantlly go active and play....

disco tamer, its my crutch.

One character, starting from scratch? I currently have four on Chessy I can't imagine doing without. It would take a powerfully compelling reason for me to recreate one of them for the purpose of going to another shard since I'm happy right where I am now. It's home, and I'm a homebody at heart.

welp I'd kill to move my alchemist to Baja (left the poor smuck on sonoma 8 years ago)....but not for a 20 mil token.

Baja is my number one home, best move I ever did. Castles and keeps galore, oh my! Luna shops are attainable! Items dirt cheap!

We are the Walmart of UO.

I transfered a Sampire to another shard 8 weeks ago. Made 3 suits to take with him and load of repair deads of difrent types.

Made a miner/alchmist/tailor/imbuer still working on his skills not started imbuing yet.

Also made an archer and a mage, which are totaly finished now

The sampire has been able to get me my 120 power scrolls for my mage and archer.

I trasnfered about 20 million with me to make life easyer.

Almost a full working accoutn now, starting with a sampire!

it cant really pvp well unless equipped so but a myst/necro mage does sound like a good option, and as pointed out the skills raise pretty easy. also can just unravel and build an imbuer, even a mid lvl imbuer can kinda make useful armor. hrm, k thanks. what kinda spec would you go for on a myst/necro mage?

just to have a backup shard, and something to work on/do. sometimes not much is going on my original shard. have a 2nd acct so i can always make a 2nd house if i have to

nec/myst mage sounds like a possible good option and wouldnt take too much work, what kinda spec do you recommend?

well garg suits are by far the easiest to make.

you can snap off a 70 suit out of barded leather with only probablly adding 2 or 3 resists to the entire suit.

100 LRC of course, 40 LMC then as much MR as you can afford (seeds)

then you can add up a bunch of other stuff like HPI and MI or what have ya.

hardest part of the entire suit will be getting a pendant if you dont allready have one and making the ring and watch, only cause youll need some E of Achievment.

when i make these guys quick and fast i go with:
110 magic
110 eval
90 necro (buff up with ring)
90 SS (again buff up with ring)
110 med
110 focus
100 myst (113-115 with watch)

that gives ya 720
the necro you only need like 105 or 106 to never fail on the wither.

lets face it, this guy isnt gonna be ruleing the yew gate.
but you should be able to champ with him and do some good in a team in pvp if ya get forced into a corner or raided.

with the garg of course your not gonna need a ethy cause you can fly.
so that saves you 3-5 mill to buy one.

usually i just drop a RC then go into wraith and tele around then spam wither.
SS and healing stone and cleans wind to keep alive.

like i said, its a fast guy to make.
since your not 120 anything on him at the begining, and if you eat up to at least 110 in scrolls for all skills you should be able to get that guy done in under 2 days.
necro and ss first.
get them into the 90's then you can do magic while in lich form with a wisp.
endless mana, magic and ei should fly.

then do the same with myst.
