SCENARIO ONE:
What if EA removed every single verite and valorite hammer?
What if they removed every piece of sam plate?

It would be a blanket punishment but no banning.

Thats one scenario. (still ban the dupers and all that)

Another scenario.
SCENARIO TWO:

Remove the above and...

What if they remove 10% of all the gold from the economy. Vendors 10% gone. All 1 million gold checks converted to 900k. You get the idea. Yeah its punishment.

This scenario add slap on the entire playerbase to beware.

Just wondering?

I don't think anyone will be affected by a 10% drop of all gold.

Prices will most likely follow.

Personally, I wouldn't even notice. But I never use hammers, already have armor and don't even know how much gold I have.

I have never used a valorite or verite runic hammer EXCEPT on TC where they are GIVEN to you, so that would not bother me personally.

If I read you correctly you are talking about removing 10% of gold from EVERYONE as a warning to not dupe/buy dupes, etc. If that is correct I would definitely be against it. As I've stated I don't use the runics EXCEPT on TC. I have never owned a barbed kit, a runic fletcher or any runic hammer higher than a bronze. And I know there are a lot of people like me on the shards. To penalize ALL of us because of some is extremely unfair.

I know some say they were banned unjustly. I don't know one way or the other on that but if there is the possibility it happened, then the above consequences for them, and them alone, would be acceptable.

What is the next best thing after verite hammers and such? That would be next to be duped, and this would go on until we all were fighting with clubs. Then 1 day someone would figure out how to put a nail into his club, and nails would be duped.....hehe

It would have no direct impact here, so my "reaction" obviously would not include an emotional response in any way. Intellectually, it would be a different story. It would further heighten concerns, 1) there is no "justice" derived from such a move, 2) it would demonstrate a lack of judgement, and 3) it would prove systemic ineptitude and clearly dispaly a lack of commitment to a long term, permanent commitment toward absolute resolution of the issues at hand.

What about those of us who have been playing for 10 years and earned our money legally?

So I should be penalized for buying a great piece of armor off a vendor because it may have been made from a duped hammer?

Who is going to return my legit 150 mill in gold for the times I baught?

To answer your question in advance:
I got a Spirit of the Totem the first Day Arties arrived. Sold 25 Mill.
I've had at least ten +20 Magery scrolls and ten +20 Eval Int scrolls, each sold for at least 10 mill each.
Let alone the 2 Keeps I have sold for 70 mill each.
Oh I forgot to mention the 10 Mill a friend gave me to remove one of my small houses so he could place a castle.

I think banning the dupers and anyone with an obscene amount of duped items even if they "just" brought them because they should of had some inclining that something was suss and deleting the duped items is perhaps the best course of action.

Am I understanding correctly that you think the people who earned their money legitimaly should be penalized as well?

Personaly wouldn't effect me "no hammers" and even if they remove 70% of all gold it it will be all made back in a short while cause of the numerous ways to get gold.

But still this penalize the have's to satisfy the have nots. Very unfair. I recently returned to UO earlie this year after a long absence. All my houses fell, the rares everything I had gone. All I had was a 1mil check in my bank. Within a month I turned that 1 mil into 100 mil cause even though I was gone for a long time I still had my skilled characters and I still remmerber how to play the game.

The duped items are long gone being gone as soon as it was created. The rewards from the dupe items are unique so they all have there own id so EA cant tell whats dupe or not

So let me get this straight.

You didn't think that UO's banning of 150 accounts caused enough of an uproar, so you want to cause more uproar by taking stuff either away from, or out of the reach of, 100,000 accounts?

I have not seen one of those hammers in all the years I have played except on TC, so that would not hurt me at all. Remove thy hammers EA! Go for it!

Nope. They should ban everyone that was involved. Why punish those who played the game fair? And the ones DESERVE to get banned that duped or contributed to it.

so basically you want it to be impossible to assemble a good pvp suit? no thanks. Most players don't care if people dupe runics because it just makes good gear available to new players and lowers to boundaries to entry into the pvp play style for everyone. This round of duping actually lessened the difference between haves and have nots because the highest end armor isnt going for 10mill a piece anymore, it's going for 3.

id like to see a system where its actually possible to get ver/val hammers...

after 5+years of bods and getting no bods for those hammers -- ive practically given up hope of seeing bods for either hammer.

Here's a novel idea...

What if Mythic simply sat down and started coming through their item processes and implemented a solution that (1) does NOT rely on information coming straight from a client and going directly into a data table; (2) has methods in place to prevent duplicate item IDs; (3) tracks parent processes that create items; (4) has a report generated daily from that day's backup that can show indication of problems early on; and (5) has a system for tracing an item back through its parent processes so that you know where it all started out at.

I mean, no offense, but of your suggestions, or Mythic just getting EA's codebase into the 21st century, I'll vote for the latter.

I think they should reduce all gold in every pile and every check on every character and in every house in the game by 90%. The five million I have stashed away becomes half a million. Anyone with a basic understanding of economics would realize that this won't change anyone's relative wealth since gold would become 10 times more valuable, but at least things wouldn't be so hyperinflated and ridiculous.

Yall complain SOOO much...

First of all, having val/verite hammers doesnt affect anyone that doesnt pvp, so why is it bothering most of you, Considering fel is dead on like EVERY shard known to man..

SEcond, Those who pvp dont give 2 hoots about cheaper and better armor on the market..

Plus raven, werent u one posting on buying bulk hammers/kits?

In seven years I can count only twice that I've ever even seen a verite or valorite hammer. If they are taken out of the game who the f* cares? They've made them so freakin difficult to obtain it's pathetic.

As to reducing gold throughout the game, how the heck does that do anything positive to the game? stupid idea.

Frankly, the only reason I have a smith is to get POF. The rest of the trade is pretty much worthless.

I've seen more new guys in fel on 3 shards in the past weeks because they simply have the means to obtain high end armor now. Artis were made cheap by EA and Gear was made cheap by Dupers. Everyone won this round.

Other than on TC I've never even had one of the hammers. My smith is just now able to get low-end ASH.

10% off the top of my gold? I would not like that since I have darn lilttle to begin with.

i think ea should give us a month warning. and then whipe all the gold off of every charicter, every check, every vender and then make all monsters from this point on give 1/10th what they give now. but before they wipe the gold they should have a turn in they do for spring cleaning and turn it in for rewards. ohh and i have 150 mil+ on my account so dont give me the im poor and thats why additude.

I think the OP points to the obscene amount of verite and valorite runic made armours on the duping shard atlantic...some of the vendors in luna there have like xxx's amounts of armours that must have been burned by well over 100 verite or valorite hammers... which we ''all'' will agree is impossible to aquire with normal gameplay...[end]

RE: Deleting Sam plate:

So, you'd screw at least 90% of the player base, that legitimately owns an Ancient Samurai Do or Rune Beetle Carapace from the two Treasures of Tokuno events?

If you were gonna delete Samurai plate piece in existance, it would have to be only items with an exceptional tag, to mininize affect on people's artis.

(2) has methods in place to prevent duplicate item IDs;
That is exactly why I still complain that they are simply Not Trying to get rid of dupes.
The game does not allow duplicate IDs.

When you pick something up, the client says "hey server, I'm here and attempting to LIFT Item ID #######." So if your client has somehow duplicated the item you are attempting to pick up without having the server generate a new ID for the dupe, it will allow you to pick up the One it sees as existing.
The other can never be used, picked up, targetted, etc.. Because all actions you attempt on it the server will see as actions attempted on the Real one.

And because the server doesn't accept the 2nd one as existing, when you relog and the server sends your client the data for what is in the world around you, the duplicate is gone.

So, all they have to do to stop ALL duping methods is to have the Item ID assignment routine check that the calling request is Valid.
Eg: If something is done that asks for a new item ID for a valorite hammer but the request for that ID is not comming from the quest script for turning in a BOD, it gets ignored and no dupe can occur.

Part of the problem is that the majority of processes to create dupes in the modern era use shard transfers as part of the process, and there isn't any code that would check cross-server for an item (and if it had to chech EVERY shard for every item, you'd get lag worse than a 1998 dialup from picking up items).

Your method has validity for checking for duplicate items on the same shard, possibly even for the server farms (but would STILL cause visible lag), but breaks down if one has to scan Atlantic, Europa, Balhae and Oceania every time someone picks up an item on Baja.

As part of the transfer process, re-number items into a separate ID set. Creating a duplicate should then be traceable and easily caught, right, and would/ wouldn't have the same lag effect? I'm really asking, because I really don't know anything at all about programming (programming when I was in school was done on punch cards - and even then over my mathematically non-inclined self) :)

Removal of items and gold is pointless as long as the following conditions still exist.

No Effective Gold Sinks are present.

Exploitable coding is in place.

Until those two things are fixed you could wipe every piece of armor and ever gold coin in UO and it wouldn't make a difference. All of it could be recovered in a much shorter period of time than you'd think....
Before Trammel 100k was a good amount of gold, then came Trammel...for a while gold still had value...Once they made powerscrolls, commodity deeds and corpses un-lootable by players, in Trammel golds worth started to drop it started what Insurance Finished. Plain and simple there is little purpose to gold other than to buy pixel crack after a certain point. Gold isn't the problem poorly implemented, or unintended results from good ideas implemented by various systems is the core problem.
