I read a thread in the Fishing/T-Hunter forum that said you probably could NOT get a skill gain from pulling up a White Pearl. Well I just got one & here is a picture of it!

If anyone is wondering: You CAN Gain Skill from Catching White Pearls

I would find it hard to tell, as you caught a fish at the same time, it appears.
How can you be certain that it was the White Pearl and not the fish that got you that gain?

Because you usually catch white pearls at the same time as other fishing items. Same when you fish up Delicate Scales. You get a messege that something is "... tangled in the line.": this is when you pull up Fish, Mess of Small Fish, or Footwear - on top of that, you get the Delicate Scales (and White Pearls) too.

how often does one pull up white pearls while fishing?

You will need 80 or above fishing skill to fish up the white pearl.
