Ok guys, after having heard about bannings for dupes of ppl that just got stuff over idocs, i called a GM about a strange Glacial Colored Spellbook i had.

that was this
it simply said "spellbook" when highlighted. I tought it was just a tokuno pigmented one, but a friend of mine said it was from some strange event which i don't know much.
I paged a GM asking if it was legit or not, and he answered like "Gm are not supporting that items, own at your own risk."
I trashed it immediatly.
Now, how i can tell if something is fishy or not?
If i loot a valorite hammer i have to call a gm to check if it's legal? Trash it in the doubt?

I have some strange things @ home, what should i do with that?
For Example, i got from an IDOC an "arrow" that has the same sprite as the "green thorn" from plants.

I'm becoming paranoid :coco:

No one is going to ban you for the spellbook. If you do pick up a few duped items anyway there not gonna target you. When they target its teh people with hundreds of duped items. The DUPERS. Not the guy who has picked a few dupes up here and there through honest means.

What he just said.

And yes the Glacial Spell book is a dupe. I believe it was originally a one of a kind item. That said, it was duped to high heaven, and alot of folks have them. I believe it was a casualty of the changeling dupe. I even have one, not bragging or being proud of owning a duped item, just stating thats how common they were, just like all the robes that got changed to monk robes. However it is kinda cool. I just have mine stored in the back of my bank box with all the other kinda cool trinkets.

PS ever come accross any Val Hammers your not sure about, I'll gladly take them off your hands.

Yea they target the duper not the person with A duped item... Plus if you just lock it down or put on a vendor it does no harm and probly if anything they will delete it or if nice will make it into a plain book.

I ended up with some of these Items over the years when going through accounts i had been given to and ended up deleting them all.
usually if they are special hue items they have a special name, and like defaulty blessed items like the spellbook they should at least have the blessed tag.
While i agree with the other posters that you shouldnt get banned for just owning one or a couple items, some of the people hit in the wave of banns would dissagre.

I allways played by the rule better save then sorry :spider:

well when i was into idocs i used to wrtie down the name and size of the idoc ( as i used to place) if i ever got something AMAZING, ie not the normal items, no matter how good, if i did not know what it was etc i made a not, and kept it, if i was ever to get in trouble i would forward a copy of my journals so they could see what i was talking about, but then again the customer service sucks so i might not have helped

as i happens i sold all my items and houses and "quit" in feb, but i obviously still read the forums, and i have had to contact the buyer a few times to warn of possible probs, ie bugged quivers, i found a few of them and sent an ICQ

lol still got a few books with all the info now

*think i need help*

General advice which has been mentioned before but is always worth repeating:

If you find one high end kit (hammer/fletching/sewing), then it's probably safe. If you find a dozen, then use or get rid of them immediately.

Glacial hued items with no special names are duped. This includes (but isn't limited to) daggers, skinning knives and spellbooks.

When in doubt, ask in the rares forum here. While they can be abrasive sometimes, they are very helpful in identifying items of unknown origins.

Just page a GM and they will fix them. I never saw the point in bugging them. You can always carry an extra quivver if you need more than 500 bolts/arrows.

They would bug themselves. I trained archery on a golem, and when I ran out of arrows I always went and got more, but then sometimes once I was restocked, the system would automatically pick up or recover all the imaginary arrows that were in the supposed area, and add them back into the quiver, and overload it.

I don't think there's a guaranteed way of knowing if something is duped, but obviously if you found multiples of said item, you'd know it wasn't a good thing to bring them home ;)

If I found a BRSK or something known to be duped I'd leave it right where it was or trash it. With IDOCs my view is that it wasn't mine to start with, so if something suspicious is there, I leave it be. Easy come, easy go. Or if I have time, I would do a quick forum search to see if a dupe was mentioned.

I do wish there was a better system for knowing which items were dupes, or, once a dupe was discovered, the offending items were all deleted or otherwise rendered useless so no innoecents got their fingers burnt.

I dont know know. Not sure about the fletcher kit. But High end sewing kits are very plentiful. Either way if I was in a idoc and I find alot of high end sewing and hammer runics I will count my lucky stars and be happy. My reasoning for this is simple the runics where never duped so there all legit. The bods where duped so thats a different matter but each runic is unque so I bow down to UO gods for the mercy and continue on my merry way richer :)

They actually did ban people for possession of dupes, and there is no safe amount of dupes you can have.

Having said that, the last time they banned for dupes it was very small number of accounts; Jeremy had said how many but I forget. Like a couple of hundred at most. (And that is out of approximately 100,000.) And the people they banned had way more dupes than you are every likely to find by house camping.

If you camp a house and find, say, 12 valorite hammers? Toss them. 3 Quells that don't have the [replica] tag? Toss them.

I know some house campers on LS and they were fine.

I agree with the replica thing. Though as I said in previous post the hammers werent duped there bods where so if you find a book of bods with the 1 val large filled 500 times over well you know whats up. Though if you find 12 val hammer they are each unique unable to be traced produced by duped bods but they themselves are not duped so do what you wish with them.
