I have decided to make a museum of items collected through-out my travels in UO. I am looking for display case ideas. I know that one floor will have tons of items (plan on displaying all Marti's) etc. Any help?

Well... hard to think..... Years ago I recall someone made some with some old school style with cloth, pillows, and quarter staffs or something like that... but I don't have any pictures... they were rather interesting....

I'm not much into display cases... Personally I just use old fashioned stone tables.... Now there is a thought.... you could check out that kitchen design and fabricate some sort of "counter" out of that to display things... Beats nothing... I put things in various boxes and place the reddish leather bound books beside them to allow folk to "see" what I have on display... but really unless you take the time to crack the book your not going to take the time to look in a chest.... but if you want to display things in groups it seems to work better than having them sprawled out on a table... but that's my opinion.

Sarsmi had a great little tutorial up at one time for some really nice display cases, but I'll be darned if I can find it now......

Try here for some of Sarsmi's examples with goza mats and half height walls (note this requires custom house type). Low marble wall with black goza "topper" looks very elegant for a museum and provides good contrast for the items being displayed (unless they are black :p) For classic homes that can't be customized you can make display case "frames" with stacked coins and cloth/gozas, chop add-ons and use gozas to make "counters" etc.

I thought I had some of Sarsmi's display case samples saved to my Photobucket but it seems I don't.

The "case" in the northeast corner was based on one of her ideas. Note: these types of cases look absolutely HIDEOUS in KR, in both regular and legacy graphics mode...but if you are designing in good old 2D mode, you will be fine.

Thank you for the replies. I have seen some designs with house walls and water troughs. I will be building the museum in the next couple of weeks. Design has to be perfect. Should take a lot of work. Thank you again.

These are a bit old but hey, might give you an idea or two. These require custom housing and floor space (because the illusion takes up space):

Directions for the illusion:

This is also an illusion, the items are all placed on the floor on staggered black goza mats. However you can make a case like this for real with black square gozas, you just can't get the items as high as you might like without them interfering with the floor above (and taking a bit of effort).

Oh and totally unrelated, but while searching with the word "case" I came across this lil guy I made a long time ago. (A chipmunk with a suitcase.) That hat just kills me, teehee!

Thank you for the ideas. I have spent HOURS on TC1 trying designs for the architecture. The cases are going to be a bit more difficult. I am breaking ground on the 18x18 house May 1st. I hope to have the museum completed by the following weekend.

Someone might have already suggested this but if not, this is what I do.

Place two square goza mats (the pure black are good because your items will "pop" off of the black) then place the item(s) you wish to display. Raise the marty and the gozas a few times with your deco tool and then place a water trough underneath them. Lower the gozas, then the marty till they sit on top of the trough. I would dismount or leave your house then come back in to refresh it to make sure the gozas haven't fallen underneath the trough.
They make very realistic display cases.

Another suggestion is to look for the rubble display cases. They are hard to come by and very expensive but they do look nice.
