Very limited ranged weapon for humans/elves: Urumi (Aara) Urumi - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Its flexible sword weapon, in UO terms it have range up to 2-3.

PS: alternative for anyone who want throwing for any race.
yyyyyyyyyNo ...
esoteric find, yeah ... but as a "substitute/alternate" For "throwing"? no.:talktothehand:

Yo-Yo and/or "whip" for a "new thang"(doesn't actually "leave" the hand either) ... but ...

INGAME items should make the transition first to being able to be "thrown"
LIKE a dagger at a dart board ... base mechanics are already in ...Or
a wrestlers ability to "throw" an opponent to the ground (not there "as much" but some graphics are, flat on ground)

hatchets, skillets ... PIES ... :gee:

*shrugs*
Thanks for throwing the idea out there though ... Good Try !!

I love it. It could be used as a purely defensive weapon, keeping enemies at bay. I can see it being favorited among thieves, fending players off as they make their escape. The specials are already obvious:

"Agility and skill are more important to master the weapon rather than strength or aggression. Twirling and controlling the urumi is a difficult and dangerous art, and is therefore taught only to the best. The urumi is most useful against multiple opponents."

- This special would do a series of rapid area attacks, causing bleeding on occasion. The down side to this attack is you must be standing still during the attack, making it a defensive move. Obviously, it wouldn't be very useful against mages.

"When not in use, the urumi is worn around the waist like a belt."

- This would be so amazing that it is a must for this weapon to be holstered around the waist. As the second special, Holster would give a powerful defensive bonus, but leave you unarmed (you couldn't use a different weapon while this special is in use, that way no one could use this as a permanent alternative to a crimson cincture/tangle). The holstering bonus would have to be worth not wearing another waist slot, and having to remain unarmed for the bonus to take effect.

"Incorrect use can result in the flexible sword wounding its wielder, and great concentration is required during use, even by experts."

- This weapon would have a new skill of its own. A low skill would cause you to occasionally harm yourself when attempting the area attack special. Raising the skill increases the Holster defense bonus, and the speed of the area slash. 120 would cause the speed of the area slash to be the fastest attack in the game by far, allowing it to be worth the 120 skill points. In fact, maybe it would be best for this weapon to be a standard 100% physical attack weapon, only upgraded via the weapon skill. The super fast standing area attack combined with the defensive bonuses (maybe allow them to be selected through a menu as you raise your skill, being as though this is the only way to upgrade it) would make this weapon/skill the most unique in the game.

Regardless, this weapon has a ton of unique potential.

P.S. The preceding message is just me thinking out loud. Do not read too much into my ideas.

That's funny, I can only imagine a person picking up this kind of weapon thinking it is a regular sword and then finding out it is like a wet noodle lol.

It would be better if large two-handed weapons had a 2-tile range instead of just 1-tile.

Interesting weapon, I thought it was a whip at first glance (before reading the wiki article).
At first I was trying to find out if it would have been used anywhere near the era of where most of the weapons in the game came from or if it was too modern. There is no historic information on Wikipedia about the weapon.
I saw that it was used on Deadliest Warrior, so I googled the episode... While the Indian Rajput warrior defeated the Roman Centurion (impressive imo), the weapon you are suggesting got ZERO kills in all of their simulations. Granted, their simulations probably only put it up against a single Roman weapon, but 0 kills is zero kills.

Re: *IDEA*

This weapon has been shown to be quite crappy and rather sluggish(In the sense that it took a while to give it enough momentum to actually work)... That's at the hands of a person skilled in using it. It barely dented Roman helmets for example, let alone a Plate Helm I imagine.. And the force was not enough to cause even a mild concussion. It looks fancy, but that's all it is. (Deadliest Warrior Series)

Fend off opponents? Once they close in you're gone if that's your only weapon, and it would require some serious space to even begin swinging it for any results at all.

So just because of that I'd not want it in UO. Most other weapons we have, especially those UO launched with but also including some fictional ones(Though judging only from their closest RL relatives) added later, would actually do serious Dmg in RL and not much Skill would be required either. Even against protected targets. For the matter, the Katana is not among them as it wouldn't even go through Chain Mail! Sorry. Judging from a Chakram's lethality and some Zande(SP?) weapons, Throwing weapons must be quite effective.. Just felt I should mention it.

That said, Devs should first give 2Hands LOTS of .. Then we can talk adding more stuffz, whether they would work IRL or not.

*ADD: Meant to say.. That URL could be showing a slightly different version of the weapon, as well as shorter. Hardly working in its favour.. At that length.. I'd pick a Flail if I wanted a flexible striking device.. Srsly.

Mmmk so it being a decent defensive weapon is unrealistic? Hell, someone get me a dagger irl if they can really turn you invisible with shadow strike.

1. This is a game with goblins, spells, and potions. Don't talk about things not being realistic enough for it. Would a cleaver really kill someone who has full armor on? No, but it is still a good UO weapon.

2. It says on the Wikipedia page that it tears flesh. Of course it won't do much irl against armor, it can't penetrate it. But again, this is a game where I can ride a ghostly llama that lives in my backpack.

3. Stop watching that crappy show.

I think big two-handed weaps should have a two tile range (spear, hally, etc).

But thats just me =/

Would atleast give two-handed weaps a good solid use..

Supporting that. A small bonus to 2-handers would increase diversity. People are asking for it for years now.
Just remember to exclude archery weapons from it ;)

I would rather a whip, or a cat-o nine tails but I guess we could add it to the skill group? Plus you could use it to whip your slacking vendors in Luna.

**Whippppsssssshhhh**
